Lead the Next Generation of Machine Autonomy as a Software Engineering Manager (CTCT)

The Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) joint venture is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing software engineering delivery team. In this role, you will guide the implementation of next-generation software features developed directly for the technicians and operators of heavy machinery, connecting physical iron with digital intelligence.

CTCT (Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies) is a high-impact joint venture that develops advanced electronic guidance and automated machine control systems for earthmoving machines in the construction and mining industries.
What Makes This Role Great:
In this role, you will have a massive impact by operating at the intersection of technical strategy, people development, and global release management. You will serve as both a high-fidelity people manager and a technical anchor, directly supervising a tight-knit engineering squad. Operating within a globally dispersed network, you will have the autonomy to drive process improvements, facilitate task allocation, and remove critical roadblocks, ensuring our software remains exceptionally clean, maintainable, and stable.
Key Exciting Responsibilities
People Leadership & Supervision: Provide direct supervision for a staff of 4–6 software engineers, including targeted goal setting, performance management, and long-term career planning.
Release Management & Delivery: Drive engineering execution and software release management. Work closely with cross-functional partners to make balanced decisions around scope, cost, quality, and timing.
Technical Guidance: Provide hands-on technical coaching to team members, remove day-to-day project roadblocks, and optimize task allocation to match engineering priorities.
Global Process Collaboration: Collaborate across geographically dispersed CTCT sites to champion continuous improvements in software development frameworks, code maintainability, and enterprise documentation.
Operational Safety Culture: Cultivate a positive health and safety environment by participating in hazard reporting, reading and following Safe Work Procedures, and maintaining a safe, clean workplace.
Essential Skills & Experience
Professional Background: Minimum of 6 years of previous product development experience, alongside a proven track record as a Software Engineering Supervisor, Lead, or Manager.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Technical Breadth: Foundational engineering knowledge in either C++, Java, Angular, or Software Testing/Validation.
Project & Team Scale: Experience managing technical engineering projects and collaborating effectively within a globally dispersed team context.
Communication & Alignment: Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex business specifications into clear technical requirements.
Bonus Points For:
Hands-on experience working with Android, physical hardware interfaces, or deeply embedded systems.
Proven ability to actively contribute to core software engineering and validation tasks as an individual contributor when needed.
Passion for self-development and a demonstrated history of mentoring diverse technical skill sets to achieve collective team milestones.
