Operations Supervisor App Host

Description

Seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager to lead our dynamic team responsible for design, implementation, and operations of our on-premises Containerization and Virtualization platform. In this role, you will contribute to strategic and technical visions for the OpenShift On-Prem platform to ensure its high availability, scalability, security, and performance for both container and virtual machine workloads. This role will be highly collaborative with multiple direct counterparts regionally (North America and Asia/Pacific) and cross-functionally (this team/platform operates in tandem with EPEO Cloud Services’ OpenShift Container Platform). The individual in this role will mentor and grow a team of talented engineers and foster a culture of innovation, embodying the values of the Cloud Native Computing (CNCF) and Open-Source Software communities.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Development - Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of OpenShift Site Reliability and DevOps Engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

  • Platform Operations – Oversee operations of the On-Prem OpenShift platforms across our EDCs, China Data Centers, and Plants during Asia/Pacific (India) hours in alignment with 24x7 support model and EPEO MTT(x) metrics. Individual in this role must be comfortable participating in an on-call support rotation in an escalation role

  • Platform Automation – Lead and oversee implementation of new automation or adoption of new feature capabilities that drive operational efficiencies or developer experience improvements

  • Security/Compliance – In tandem with counterparts and the global OpenShift platform engineering team, ensure that all Information Security Policy (ISP), regulatory, and industry security/best practices are implemented and enforced on the entirety of our environment

Qualifications

Technical Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field or equivalent work experience)
  • (5+ years) Strong Linux knowledge on multiple platforms (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE).
  • (3+ years) Experience in use of Kubernetes (upstream or enterprise distributions).
  • (3+ years) In-depth use of Cloud-based PaaS and IaaS. Google Cloud (GCP) and Azure experience preferred.
  • (2+ years) Experience with GIT and CI/CD pipelines using Tekton, GitHub Actions, CloudBuild, and/or Jenkins.
  • (2+ years) Experience working in a ‘GitOps’ Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) driven environment (w/ tooling such as Ansible and/or terraform)
  • Demonstrable proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (Golang or bash/shell highly preferred)

  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of RESTFUL API concepts and JSON formats.
  • Working knowledge of application development architectures, web deployment methodologies and mobile technologies.

Soft Skills Required:

  • (3+ years) Experience directly or indirectly managing or leading software engineering, site reliability, or platform engineering teams with full-stack (planning, engineering, and operations) responsibilities
  • (3+ years) Experience leading and/or working in a globally distributed team with regional colocation of team members
  • Experience or willingness to act as an escalation point on engineering or operational issues – Including customer escalations
  • Experience working in a paired programming / engineering team, ability to mentor in such an environment
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.

 

Technical Skills Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with RedHat OpenShift Container Platform and OpenShift Virtualization or Certifications (CKA, CKAD, RedHat EX280 certification) 
  • Knowledge of networking, security, and storage concepts as they relate to containerized environments.
  • Experience contributing to or working with open-source projects (CNCF recognized or other) 

  • Experience with GitOps for managing OpenShift configurations
