Associate Consultant
The position in discussion is with the Risk Management Research unit, which is part of the Research & Benchmarking team, within Capability Hubs (CH) unit at KPMG Global Services (KGS). The Risk Management Research team collaborates with the US Risk Management function, delivering insights on the emerging risks and conducting detailed assessment of potential risks that may impact KPMG and its operations. The team’s primary objective is to equip the Risk Management practitioners at KPMG US with timely, relevant, and actionable insights to support informed decision‑making.
Key attributes (Research):
•Contribute to research and benchmarking assignments, either as part of ongoing client engagements, or as a part of business development efforts conducted by the entity•Conceive, design, and execute secondary research on:–Company: Business model, segments, revenue model, strategy, issues / challenges, M&A history, competitive positioning, organization structure, key management, recent developments, SWOT, etc.–Market: Industry value chain, size and growth outlook, trends and drivers, growth inhibitors and challenges, competitive landscape, Porter’s / PESTLE analysis, etc.–Benchmarking: Basic understanding of the role of support functions, operational KPI benchmarking, and vendor assessment from a business perspective–Financials: Broad analysis of income statement, balance sheet, cash flows, ratios, segment performance, etc.–Competitors: Comparative performance of companies on financial and operational KPIs, relative strengths and weaknesses, etc.•Prepare client deliverables in MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Word, ensuring outputs are client‑ready, well‑structured, logical, and easy to understand•Undertake exhaustive research for deliverables and triangulate information and data points from multiple credible sources•Identify and recommend alternative data sources and research methodologies; propose proxies and run creative queries to fetch difficult to obtain data•Apply structured logical thinking to derive insights and articulate “so‑what” conclusions for simple to moderately complex projects, with appropriate guidance•Articulate findings through use of clear, concise, and grammatically correct business English (both written and verbal)•Develop simple, bespoke frameworks to represent research findings and propose innovative ways of presenting information•Proactively seek guidance to decode scope requirements and ask relevant questions to understand the broader context and objectives•Adhere to internal and external timelines, proactively flag risks to delivery, and suggest mitigation solutions where required•Support project leads during client calls and discussions, as needed•Work with a reasonable degree of independence, under appropriate supervision and guidance from Consultants, Assistant Managers, or Managers•Collaborate effectively with onshore KPMG teams in the development and delivery of presentations and key findings
Educational qualifications
•Total experience: The candidate must have 1–3 years of relevant experience in a similar role•Qualifications: MBA / M.Com/ PG in Commerce•Technical skills (1/2):
•Proficient in MS Office, with intermediate to advanced capabilities in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word•Proficiency in primary and secondary research and benchmarking, leveraging both specialized databases and public sources•Working knowledge of established strategic and analytical frameworks, including SWOT, Porter’s Five Forces, and PESTLETechnical skills (2/2):
•Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative information to derive meaningful, actionable insights•Strong numerical, analytical, and strategic thinking capabilities, supported by sound business and commercial acumen•Pragmatic and structured approach to analysis and problem‑solving, with the ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity and drive outcomes•Ability to assess complex or technical information, distill key strategic insights, and communicate them succinctly and confidently in both written and verbal formats•Experience in data analysis and the preparation of high‑quality outputs including research reports, thought leadership pieces, media articles and regulatory updates•Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop well‑structured presentations, particularly in PowerPoint
