Cloud Engineering within Group Digital provides build and run capabilities for enterprise cloud platforms. This includes platform automation, DevOps tooling, CI/CD enablement, security baseline implementation, and operational support across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud.

In addition to platform engineering capabilities, the team maintains a number of internally developed applications and automation tools that support both platform operations and selected business services.

These applications provide operational capabilities, reporting, integrations, and workflow automation used by engineering teams and business stakeholders across the Firm.

Service Line Information 

Cloud Engineering services the broader Firm through delivery of core technology and managed services capabilities, collaboration and innovation development services, and development of strategic technology partnerships.

The Custom Development capability supports both platform teams and business services by developing and maintaining internally built applications that enable operational processes, data visibility, and integration across technology platforms.

Job Description 

The Team

The role sits within the Cloud Engineering / Custom Apps team in Group Digital and supports the development and operation of internally developed applications used by both platform teams and business services.

These applications provide operational tooling, reporting dashboards, automation capabilities, and integration services across the cloud engineering environment and selected business workflows.

The team works closely with platform engineers, service owners, and business stakeholders to ensure that custom applications remain reliable, secure, and aligned with operational needs.

The team operates within a multi-supplier delivery model supporting both application development and operational support.

The Role

 

The Custom Development Engineer develops and maintains internally developed applications supporting platform operations and business services.

The role supports both development activities and operational maintenance of custom applications.

Key Responsibilities

 

• Develop and maintain custom applications using technologies such as Python, Node.js, SQL, and web frameworks

• Support integration between custom applications and enterprise platforms

• Maintain dashboards and reporting solutions including Power BI

• Support troubleshooting and incident resolution for supported applications

• Implement application fixes, updates, and enhancements

• Maintain application documentation and development standards

• Collaborate with platform teams and business users to support application improvements

The Person

 

To be effective in this role, the individual must have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline

• 2–4 years of professional experience in software development or application engineering roles

• Experience developing internal tools, automation services, or web-based applications supporting operational or business processes

• Experience working with enterprise development environments, including source control, build pipelines, or development standards

• Experience supporting applications used in operational environments, including troubleshooting, defect resolution, and controlled updates

• Experience collaborating with technical teams and business stakeholders to support application enhancements and issue resolution

• Experience developing applications using Python, Node.js, or similar languages

• Experience working with SQL databases

• Experience developing web applications or internal tools

• Familiarity with Power BI or reporting platforms

• Experience supporting applications in operational environments

Preferred Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate

• Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)

This role contributes directly to the reliability and effectiveness of custom applications that support both cloud engineering operations and business services.

Effective execution ensures that internally developed tools and applications remain stable, secure, and aligned with operational and business needs while continuing to support the Firm’s technology platforms and services.
