Description & Requirements

Highly experienced Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator with over 10 years of hands-on experience in managing, supporting, and optimizing mission-critical MSSQL environments. Proven expertise in database administration, performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, automation, and security. Adept at handling large-scale Production systems, complex troubleshooting, and 24x7 operational support.

 

Core Responsibilities & Expertise required:

• Extensive experience administering Microsoft SQL Server (2012 / 2014 / 2016 / 2019 / 2022) across Windows and Linux platforms.
• Strong expertise in installation, configuration, and administration of SQL Server standalone, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), and Always On Availability Groups.
• Proven ability to handle critical production database issues, including outages, data corruption, blocking, deadlocks, and performance degradation.
• Deep hands-on experience in backup and recovery strategies, including:
  • Full, differential, and transaction log backups
  • Point-in-time recovery
  • Backup validation and restore testing
• Extensive experience in disaster recovery planning and execution, including failover, failback, and DR drills.
• Strong expertise in performance tuning and troubleshooting, including:
  • Query execution plan analysis
  • Query Store, Extended Events, and SQL Profiler
  • Index optimization and statistics maintenance
  • Memory, CPU, tempdb, and I/O tuning
• Hands-on experience in SQL Server upgrades and patching, including version upgrades, cumulative updates, and service packs.
• Proven experience in database migration and consolidation projects, including cross-version and cross-server migrations.
• Strong scripting and automation skills using T-SQL and PowerShell for monitoring, maintenance, and alerting.
• Experience in job scheduling and automation using SQL Server Agent and custom scripts.
• Expertise in database security and user management, including:
  • Logins, users, roles, and permissions
  • Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
  • Auditing, compliance, and access monitoring
• Strong experience in capacity planning and database monitoring, including disk usage, growth forecasting, and performance baselining.
• Hands-on experience with tempdb configuration and optimization.
• Experience working with Microsoft Support for resolving complex and high-severity issues.
• Proficient in Import/Export, SSIS, and logical backup strategies.
• Experience supporting application deployments, releases, and database change management.
• Skilled in creating SOPs, documentation, and audit reports.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with application teams, infrastructure teams, and stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of AWS core services, cloud architecture patterns, and best practices.
• Proficiency in networking concepts, scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash), and database technologies (SQL, NoSQL).
