Radiology Typist

A Typist or Medical Transcriptionist in a Nuclear Medicine Department transcribes and formats highly specialized diagnostic reports, such as PET, SPECT, and bone scan results. They ensure precise documentation and maintain patient records.

Key Requirements & Qualifications :

• Typing Speed & Accuracy: Typically requires a minimum typing speed of 40 to 60+ words per minute with near-perfect accuracy.
• Medical Knowledge: Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and specific nuclear medicine or radiology terms (e.g., radiopharmaceuticals, gamma cameras)
• Computer Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of word processing software, hospital information systems (RIS), and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS)
• Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strict adherence to patient privacy, and the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Core Responsibilities:

• Report Transcription: Accurately type and format complex diagnostic imaging reports, physician notes, and nuclear medicine test results based on dictation or draft notes
• Medical Terminology: Review and edit transcriptions for spelling, grammar, and correct usage of highly specialized nuclear medicine and radiology terminology
• Data Management: Maintain organized filing systems, both digital and physical, ensuring patient histories, tracking statistics, and scan results are properly cataloged in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Administrative Support: Handle departmental correspondence, answer phone calls, schedule patient appointments, and assist medical staff as needed
• Quality Assurance: Ensure all transcribed reports comply with hospital confidentiality and regulatory standards (such as HIPAA guidelines) before final physician sign-off.
