Restaurant Captain

A restaurant captain leads the front-of-house team by managing daily dining operations, supervising waitstaff, and ensuring an exceptional guest experience. They bridge the gap between guests and the kitchen, handling seating, staff training, customer feedback, and service standards. [1, 2]

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Floor Management: Greet guests, manage reservations, assign tables, and oversee the dining room to ensure seamless service.
• Staff Supervision: Conduct pre-shift briefings, assign tasks to waiters, organize duty rosters, and train new team members.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure all staff adhere to food and beverage safety and hygiene standards. Monitor table settings, menu knowledge, and service timelines.
• Customer Interaction: Establish rapport with guests, present menus, assist with food and wine pairings, and resolve any complaints promptly.
• Inventory & Administration: Maintain stock levels for linens, cutlery, and beverages, conduct inventory checks, and operate Point of Sale (POS) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Education: A diploma or degree in Hotel Management, Hospitality, or a relevant culinary program.
• Experience: Typically 2 to 5 years of experience in food and beverage service, with prior supervisory experience highly valued.
