Senior System Administrator – Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior System Administrator to lead the management, optimization, and security of our IT infrastructure. In this role, you will go beyond supporting ownership of system architecture, driving improvements, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability of enterprise systems.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and leadership to align IT systems with business goals while maintaining best-in-class operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the administration, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server environments (2016 and above).
• Act as the escalation point for complex L1 technical issues and ensure timely resolution.
• Design, implement, and manage Active Directory, Group Policies (GPO), domain architecture, and replication.
• Monitor system performance, availability, and security; proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
• Manage and optimize enterprise infrastructure including servers, storage, virtualization, and endpoints.
• Plan and execute system upgrades, patch management, and infrastructure improvements.
• Oversee network infrastructure, including switches, routers, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and VPN configurations.
• Administer and support Microsoft Office 365, and SharePoint environments.
• Ensure data integrity, backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity.
• Maintain and improve IT documentation, SOPs, and knowledge bases.
• Collaborate with vendors and service providers for hardware/software procurement and issue resolution.
• Drive automation and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and L1 support team.
• Ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and best practices.
• Manage asset lifecycle and maintain accurate configuration records.

Technical Skills

• Advanced expertise in Windows Server administration (2016/2019/2022).
• Strong hands-on experience with Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, and domain services.
• Solid knowledge of networking concepts:
• Layer 2 & Layer 3 switching
• Routing protocols
• VLAN configuration
• IPSec VPNs
• Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware).
• Proficiency in administration of Microsoft Office 365, and SharePoint Online.
• Strong understanding of backup, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions.
• Experience with RDS environments, remote access tools, and user profile management.
• Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation tools is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools, logging systems, and performance tuning.
• Experience in security best practices, patching, and vulnerability management.
• Manage and implement system updates, patches, and security fixes to ensure system integrity and compliance. 
• Design, configure, and maintain secure and scalable network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks.
• Act as the primary escalation point for L1/L2/L3 support issues, ensuring timely resolution of complex technical problems.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience: 5+ years in system administration or infrastructure roles.
• Proven experience handling enterprise IT environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in mentoring or leading junior team members.
• Strong documentation and process-oriented mindset.
• Relevant certifications (preferred):
• Microsoft Certified (Windows Server)
• VMware / Networking certifications
