The team owns the One Microsoft PDF stack, delivering high quality PDF experiences. We enable users to consume web content through immersive reading capabilities, translation and read aloud experiences as well as advanced screenshot and editing features among other key innovations. Come join a team of highly motivated developers working on Microsoft Edge! We are looking for a Software Engineer II with high standards of excellence to join our engineering team to build the best-in-class reading experience for the next generation. The ideal candidate is skilled at design and implementation, able to own large architectural designs and collaborate well across multiple partner teams.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile  commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from  the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction. 

Responsibilities

• Skilled at design and implementation with a focus on quality.
• Create layered, componentized, testable, interface-based designs.
• Robust implementation and crafted end-user experiences.
• Design highly performant, highly usable, scalable, world-ready, accessible software.
• Collaborate across functional and partner teams to define requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of professional industry experience working on large projects.
• Experience in C++ or Windows development.
• Excellent design, coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Windows architecture and internals is a plus. 
• Multi-threaded application development.
• Experience with creating and operating services in Azure and/or competitive offerings.
• Experience working on the Chromium project is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective collaboration skills driving changes at scale.
• Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web technologies is a plus.
