Job Description
Key responsibilities of a chef or cook typically include:
- Preparing and cooking food according to recipes and quality standards.
- Planning and organizing food preparation to ensure timely service.
- Maintaining high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation.
- Ensuring kitchen cleanliness and following food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Checking the freshness and quality of ingredients before use.
- Managing inventory by monitoring stock levels and minimizing food waste.
- Operating and maintaining kitchen equipment safely.
- Coordinating with kitchen staff to ensure smooth workflow during service.
- Adapting recipes or menu items to accommodate customer dietary needs or special requests.
- Following portion control guidelines to maintain consistency and control costs.
- Assisting with menu planning and developing new dishes (especially for chefs).
- Training and supervising junior kitchen staff (for senior chefs or head chefs).
