Senior Associate (US Mortgage)

Job Title: US Mortgage Underwriter (Conventional & Non-QM) - Sutherland

Job Summary

US Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and underwriting residential mortgage loan applications, including Conventional, Non-QM, and DSCR products. The role involves assessing borrower eligibility, analyzing risk, ensuring compliance with investor and regulatory guidelines, and making sound underwriting decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite Conventional, Non-QM, and DSCR mortgage loans.
• Analyze borrower income, assets, credit, employment, and collateral to assess eligibility and risk.
• Evaluate alternative documentation loans, including bank statement, asset depletion, 1099 income, ITIN, and P&L-only programs.
• Ensure compliance with agency, investor, company, and regulatory guidelines.
• Issue approvals, conditions, suspensions, or denials based on underwriting standards.
• Review and clear underwriting conditions and resubmitted documentation.
• Collaborate with loan officers, processors, brokers, and internal teams to support timely loan decisions.
• Maintain accurate underwriting records and support quality control and audit processes.
• Stay up to date with mortgage products, investor requirements, and regulatory changes.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of US mortgage underwriting experience, including Conventional and/or Non-QM loan products.
• Strong knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Non-QM, and DSCR underwriting guidelines.
• Experience with income analysis, risk assessment, and mortgage compliance requirements.
• Proficiency with Loan Origination Systems (LOS), Automated Underwriting Systems (DU/LP), and document management systems.
• Strong analytical, decision-making and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple loan files and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
• Exposure to underwriting tools (LOS) such as encompass, calyxpath etc
