DTP Operator

Job Description – DTP Operator (Book Publishing House)

We are looking for a skilled, creative, and detail-oriented DTP Operator for our book publishing house. The candidate will be responsible for page designing, typesetting, formatting, multilingual typing, artwork preparation, and print-ready file creation for books, educational materials, and publishing projects.

Software Knowledge Required:

Adobe PageMaker

Adobe InDesign

CorelDRAW

Adobe Photoshop

Language & Typing Requirements:

Good typing speed and accuracy required.

Knowledge of any two languages is mandatory:

English + Hindi

English + Bengali

Hindi + Bengali

English + Hindi + Bengali (preferred)

Ability to type and format multilingual text accurately.

Key Responsibilities:

DTP & Page Layout Work

Typesetting and page composition for books, guides, notebooks, question banks, workbooks, and educational publications.

Create attractive and print-ready layouts using PageMaker / InDesign.

Format manuscripts into final publishing layouts.

Set margins, paragraph styles, headings, footers, page numbers, indexes, tables, and contents.

Maintain uniformity in font style, spacing, alignment, and design standards.

Typing & Content Formatting

Accurate typing in Hindi, English, and/or Bengali.

Convert handwritten or scanned manuscripts into editable typed formats.

Proofread basic text while typing and minimize errors.

Format chapters, exercises, MCQs, tables, and educational content properly.

Designing & Artwork

Design book covers, title pages, inner pages, advertisements, posters, and promotional materials.

Edit images and graphics in Photoshop.

Create illustrations, charts, labels, icons, and layouts in CorelDRAW.

Use creativity and good photo sense for attractive visual presentation.

Academic Publishing Support

Basic understanding of school/college academic content preferred.

Work on textbooks, reference books, exam guides, question papers, solution books, and educational publications.

Understand chapter hierarchy, exercises, diagrams, and subject presentation.

Mathematical & Technical Work

Prepare and format mathematical equations, formulas, symbols, and scientific content.

Draw simple diagrams, charts, geometry figures, tables, and graphs.

Handle mathematics, science, and technical subject layouts accurately.

Pre-Press & Final Output

Prepare print-ready PDF files as per press specifications.

Check page size, bleed, margins, image resolution, fonts, and color settings.

Coordinate with editors, proofreaders, authors, designers, and printing press.

Make corrections and revisions quickly as instructed.

Required Skills:

Strong command over PageMaker / InDesign / CorelDRAW / Photoshop.

Fast and accurate typing speed.

Good creativity and design sense.

Good photo editing and layout sense.

Attention to detail and formatting accuracy.

Ability to handle deadlines during publishing season.

Basic academic and subject understanding.

Teamwork and communication skills.

Preferred Additional Skills:

Equation typing software knowledge.

Unicode and legacy font conversion knowledge.

Bengali / Hindi publishing experience.

Book cover designing experience.

Printing press workflow knowledge.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in publishing house, printing press, newspaper, magazine, or DTP centre preferred.
