Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As Head - Central Safety & EHS, Swaraj Division, you will lead safety, sustainability, and compliance initiatives across manufacturing locations, fostering a culture of zero harm and environmental excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive Safety Excellence through HIRA, BBS, PTW, LOTO, contractor safety, emergency preparedness, and incident prevention.
  • Ensure statutory compliance with safety, health, environmental, electrical, and factory regulations, including audits and regulatory liaison.
  • Develop and implement the division's ESG strategy, aligned with corporate sustainability goals.
  • Lead BRSR and sustainability reporting, ensuring accurate ESG data management and governance.
  • Spearhead energy efficiency, renewable energy, decarbonisation, and carbon reduction initiatives.
  • Drive environmental sustainability through water conservation, waste minimisation, pollution control, and circular economy practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements and promote resource recycling and reuse.
  • Apply Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) principles to support sustainable manufacturing and product development.
  • Champion social sustainability, CSR, employee well-being, community engagement, and responsible business practices.
  • Leverage digitalisation and AI to enhance safety, sustainability performance, energy management, and ESG reporting.

This role requires strong cross-functional leadership to align safety and sustainability objectives with business goals while driving continuous improvement across the Swaraj Division.

Experience

Experience Required

  • Extensive experience of 15 to 20 years within Manufacturing, Automotive, Farm Equipment, or Engineering sectors, demonstrating strong domain knowledge and operational expertise.
  • Proven track record as a Plant Safety Head or in a senior EHS leadership role managing multiple manufacturing sites, with responsibility for large teams and complex safety systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and executing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies along with Sustainability Reporting to meet evolving regulatory standards and stakeholder expectations.
  • Hands-on experience in Energy Management initiatives, with a focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and carbon footprint reduction projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical application of Environment Management Systems including ISO 14001, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001), and Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) frameworks.
  • Familiarity with statutory compliance processes and regulatory audit management in industrial environments.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to embed safety culture and sustainability practices into operational processes.

The ideal candidate should have a history of successfully leading transformational change in safety and sustainability while aligning with corporate governance and business priorities.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Production, Environmental, or related disciplines) from a recognised university.
  • Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent certification in Industrial Safety from accredited institutes such as Certified Lead Auditor (CLI)/Registered Lead Inspector (RLI) or equivalent recognised certifications is highly desirable.
  • Formal certification in Sustainability, ESG, or Corporate Social Responsibility from recognised bodies or institutions demonstrating expertise in sustainability frameworks and reporting.
  • Additional certifications or training in Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Occupational Health and Safety, and Energy Management will be advantageous.

Continuous professional development in emerging ESG standards, digital sustainability tools, or advanced safety management will strengthen candidate potential.

  • Ability to travel occasionally within multiple manufacturing locations as required, although the role primarily does not involve frequent travel.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and social accountability.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable local, national, and international safety, environmental, and ESG regulations and best practices.
