Job Description
A Retail Sales Manager is primarily responsible for driving store revenue, leading the floor sales team, and ensuring an exceptional customer shopping experience. They bridge the gap between high-level business goals and daily floor operations
1. Sales & Revenue Generation
- Target Setting: Establish, monitor, and achieve daily, weekly, and monthly store sales targets.
- Performance Analysis: Review financial data and sales metrics to identify performance gaps and implement corrective strategies.
- Promotional Execution: Coordinate with corporate marketing to launch in-store sales events, discounts, and loyalty programs. [1, 2, 3, 4]
2. Team Leadership & Management
- Recruitment: Source, interview, and onboard retail sales associates.
- Training: Conduct workshops on sales techniques, product knowledge, and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Scheduling: Create employee shifts to optimize floor coverage during peak shopping hours.
- Performance Reviews: Provide routine coaching, evaluate employee progress, and manage disciplinary actions. [1, 2, 3, 4]
3. Store Operations & Visual Merchandising
- Inventory Control: Track stock levels, oversee replenishment, and coordinate orders with suppliers.
- Visual Standards: Collaborate with visual merchandisers to build appealing window displays and clean layouts.
- Loss Prevention: Implement security measures to minimize shoplifting, stock damage, and administrative errors.
- Compliance: Enforce strict health, safety, and operational policies across the retail floor. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
4. Customer Experience
- Issue Resolution: Handle complex customer complaints and escalations promptly and professionally.
- Trend Analysis: Monitor customer feedback and buying behaviors to optimize service standards. [1, 2, 3]
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Experience: 2–5 years of retail sales experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or team-lead role.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field is highly preferred.
Technical & Soft Skills
- Sales Proficiency: Proven track record of meeting or exceeding commercial sales quotas.
- Software Competency: Familiarity with modern retail POS software, CRM tools, and inventory management systems.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to manage employee dynamics and negotiate with external vendors.
- Availability: Flexibility to work retail hours, including nights, weekends, and national holidays.
