Job Description

Ares is seeking a Compliance Technology Developer to join our Legal, Risk & Compliance (LRC) Technology engineering team in Mumbai. This role will design, build, and support technology solutions that enable key compliance workflows and controls across the firm. The position reports to a New York-based Engineering Lead and will work closely with global stakeholders, product and engineering partners, and external vendors as needed.

The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer who is an expert-level Pega developer/architect, bringing a proven track record delivering scalable, reliable workflow solutions. Experience in (or exposure to) Legal, Risk, and/or Compliance domains is strongly preferred. This role requires excellent engineering fundamentals, strong SDLC discipline, and a high bar for quality—along with clear communication, attention to detail, and a continuous learning mindset.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and support Pega-based applications and workflows supporting Compliance and broader LRC capabilities, with a focus on scalability, resiliency, and audit-ready outcomes.
  • Serve as a Pega technical expert—contributing to solution architecture, configuration standards, reusable components, and platform best practices.
  • Partner with business analysts, product partners, and engineering leads to translate requirements into technical designs, user stories, and deliverables with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Build and maintain integrations and data flows as required (APIs/services, batch interfaces, data mappings), ensuring reliability, monitoring, and strong data quality practices.
  • Apply strong engineering discipline across the SDLC: design reviews, development standards, code quality, testing practices, release management, and production support readiness.
  • Support production stability through effective troubleshooting, incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement of monitoring and operational runbooks.
  • Participate in peer reviews and promote high-quality engineering practices across the team (testing rigor, performance considerations, secure development, documentation).
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards for security, identity/access controls, logging, traceability, and records/evidence retention.
  • Contribute to ongoing platform modernization and efficiency efforts, including automation and tooling improvements where appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively across time zones—providing status updates, surfacing risks/issues early, and collaborating effectively with global team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 4+ years of hands-on experience with Pega (required).
  • Deep expertise with Pega platform development and architecture, including enterprise workflow/case management implementations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in a global team environment.
  • High standards for quality, attention to detail, and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred).

Experience Required

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience as a Pega developer/technical lead/architect, including:
    • Designing scalable case/workflow solutions
    • Defining and applying Pega best practices and standards
    • Performance and production support considerations
    • Building reusable rules/components and supporting maintainable implementations
  • Strong familiarity with general development and SDLC practices:
    • Requirements-to-delivery execution, testing strategies, CI/CD concepts, release/change management
    • Debugging, troubleshooting, and operational support discipline
    • Documentation practices and technical design artifacts
  • Exposure to (or interest in) Legal, Risk, and/or Compliance domains, including process controls, auditability, and regulated workflow expectations.
  • Experience with integrations and data concepts (REST APIs/services, batch) and comfort with SQL/data analysis is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in regulated financial services or similarly high-control environments.
  • Familiarity with compliance workflows such as AML/KYC, surveillance/monitoring, attestations, approvals, exceptions, or regulatory reporting (or adjacent LRC processes).
  • Experience collaborating with distributed teams across India and the U.S., including overlap hours when needed.

General Requirements

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong ownership mindset with disciplined execution and follow-through.
  • Curious and committed to continuous learning; actively stays current on platform capabilities and engineering best practices.
  • Collaborative, service-oriented approach; builds credibility through responsiveness, clarity, and quality.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to resolve issues with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to flex working hours as needed to support global collaboration and production needs.
