Infection Control Nurse

The Infection Control Nurse (ICN) is a registered nurse with specialized training and expertise in infection prevention and control. The ICN plays a crucial role in safeguarding patient safety by preventing and managing the spread of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) within the hospital setting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Develops, implements, and evaluates infection prevention and control policies and procedures in accordance with national and local guidelines (e.g., CDC, WHO). * Conducts surveillance and outbreak investigations to identify and control the spread of HAIs. * Educates healthcare workers, patients, and families on infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and aseptic technique. * Monitors compliance with infection prevention and control protocols and identifies areas for improvement. * Participates in the selection, evaluation, and use of antimicrobial agents and disinfectants. * Collaborates with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and environmental services staff, to implement infection prevention strategies. * Maintains accurate records of infection surveillance data and outbreak investigations. * Stays current on the latest research and best practices in infection prevention and control. * May participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects related to infection prevention. Qualifications: * Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. * Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher degree preferred. * Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or equivalent preferred. * Minimum of two years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting. * Strong knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, and infection prevention principles. * Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other relevant software. Additional Skills (Preferred): * Experience with data analysis and statistical software. * Knowledge of hospital epidemiology and outbreak investigation methodologies. * Experience with antimicrobial stewardship programs.
