Printing Press Operator

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Press Operator to run and manage our printing machines on a daily basis. This role is responsible for the entire press operation — from job setup to final printed output — ensuring consistent quality, minimal wastage, and on-time delivery of print runs.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation & Setup

• Operate and monitor 2 printing machines (digital/offset) for daily book printing runs
• Set up print jobs including paper loading, ink/toner replenishment, plate setting, and alignment as per job specifications
• Manage job sequencing to ensure maximum machine utilisation across the day
• Adjust machine settings for different paper stocks, sizes, and print specifications

Quality Control

• Ensure accurate colour matching, registration, and print density across all runs
• Inspect printed sheets at regular intervals for defects — smudging, misalignment, colour variation, paper jams
• Reject and report defective output, maintain wastage logs

Maintenance

• Perform daily machine cleaning and routine preventive maintenance
• Troubleshoot minor technical issues during operations — paper jams, ink flow problems, alignment errors
• Escalate major breakdowns immediately and coordinate with service technicians
• Maintain machine maintenance logs

Production Coordination

• Coordinate with the Finishing Operator to ensure smooth handoff of printed materials
• Maintain daily production logs — jobs completed, paper used, wastage, machine downtime
• Ensure raw material availability (paper stock, ink/toner cartridges) and flag reorder needs in advance

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 2–4 years of hands-on experience operating digital or offset printing machines
• Knowledge of paper types, ink/toner systems, and print settings
• Basic understanding of colour theory and ability to match colour output to specifications
• Ability to read and follow job tickets and production schedules
• Good attention to detail and ability to spot print defects quickly
• Physically fit — role requires standing for extended hours and lifting paper reams
• Reliable attendance and punctuality

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a book printing or publishing environment
• Knowledge of digital printing software/RIP software
• Experience with preventive maintenance schedules
• ITI or technical diploma in printing technology
