EY GDS - Delivery Excellence Senior position
Over the last decade, infrastructure cost efficiency, platform reliability and operational excellence have become critical to running successful global businesses. To enable rapid and secure IT transformation, we leverage modern infrastructure delivery frameworks, standardized build patterns and automation-first tooling often built on Red Hat OpenShift to deliver resilient, scalable and compliant environments tailored to our clients’ needs.
As part of our global GDS team, you will contribute to infrastructure and platform delivery initiatives as an Infrastructure Excellence professional. You will work on complex, high-impact challenges across cloud, data centre and hybrid environments, helping build next-generation delivery platforms of Red Hat OpenShift that improve provisioning speed, availability, security and service performance at scale.
The opportunity
We are seeking a Senior OpenShift Engineer (3–7 years’ hands-on experience) to drive end-to-end deployment, lifecycle management and day-to-day operations of Red Hat OpenShift 4.x clusters across on-premises (bare-metal and virtualized) and cloud environments, including hybrid architectures. You will bring strong expertise in OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt), CI/CD toolchain integration and operating in air-gapped or disconnected environments, partnering closely with network, storage, security and application teams to ensure platform reliability, performance and compliance across the organisation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
OpenShift Cluster Deployment & Operations
- Install and operate OpenShift 4.x on-prem and in the cloud (UPI/IPI), including control plane and worker setup.
- Perform cluster upgrades, certificate management, and etcd backup/restore with DR readiness.
- Monitor and troubleshoot using Prometheus/Grafana and maintain runbooks for common incidents.
OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt)
- Manage OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) to run and live-migrate VMs alongside containers.
- Configure VM networking (Multus/SR-IOV) and storage integration (ODF/Ceph, NFS, Fibre Channel).
- Enable VM image import and backup/restore using CDI and OADP/Velero.
CI/CD Pipelines & DevSecOps
- Build and support CI/CD pipelines on OpenShift using Jenkins.
- Manage artifact and image repositories (Nexus) and support disconnected setups.
- Implement DevSecOps controls: SonarQube quality gates, image scanning (ACS/Trivy) and GitOps delivery (Argo CD).
Networking, Storage & Platform Integration
- Configure networking: VLANs, OVN-Kubernetes policies, egress and load balancing (HAProxy/MetalLB).
- Integrate identity and security basics: LDAP/AD, RBAC, wildcard DNS and TLS certificates.
- Provision storage classes and set resource controls (quotas and LimitRanges) for namespaces.
Automation, IaC & Air-Gapped Environments
- Automate provisioning and day-2 tasks using Ansible, Helm and Kustomize.
- Support air-gapped installs by mirroring OpenShift releases/operators/images and managing ICSP/IDMS.
- Use Terraform for supporting services (DNS, load balancer, IPAM) and maintain drift control via GitOps.
Security, Compliance & Reliability
- Apply platform security: SCCs, Pod Security standards and NetworkPolicy; align with CIS hardening.
- Integrate secrets and audit controls (Vault, SIEM) and support reliability through tuning and RCA.
- Create clear diagrams/runbooks/SOPs and support on-call and knowledge transfer for L1/L2 teams.
Skills and attributes for success
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with infrastructure, security, network and application teams.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset for resolving platform and production issues.
- Proactive team player with strong ownership mindset (self-starter) for day-2 operations and continuous improvement.
- Ability to create high-quality technical documentation (runbooks, SOPs, architecture notes and KT material).
- Well organised and detail-oriented, with discipline around change management, compliance and operational readiness.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- College degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technology field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 3–7 years of hands-on experience in OpenShift/Kubernetes platform engineering, cluster operations and lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of automation and IaC practices/tools (Ansible, Terraform, GitOps) and CI/CD fundamentals.
- Ability to handle incident management, troubleshooting, RCA documentation and customer/production escalations.
- Strong stakeholder management skills to collaborate across network, storage, security and application teams.
Additionally, good to have
- Experience with work tracking and release/change tools (JIRA, Azure DevOps) for platform delivery and operations.
- Hands-on exposure to DevOps automation and GitOps tooling (Jenkins, Argo CD), plus scripting (Bash/Python).
- Knowledge of configuration management and packaging practices (Ansible, Helm, Kustomize) for repeatable platform builds.
- Understanding of delivery/operations processes (Agile/Scrum, ITIL change & incident management, basic SRE practices).
- – Observability stack – Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana, Loki.
Certification:
- EX280 – Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration
- EX316 – Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Virtualization
- CKA – Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CNCF)
