SEO & AI Search Specialist
Key Responsibilities
- Keyword and Prompt Research: Conduct comprehensive keyword research for organic search and develop effective prompts for AI search engines, identifying opportunities to improve content discoverability.
- Search Strategy Development: Define and refine overarching SEO and AI search strategies aligned with business objectives and target audiences for specific solution areas.
- Content Review and Optimization: Audit existing content and review new content for adherence to SEO and AI search best practices, providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Metrics and Analytics: Track, analyze, and report on key SEO and AI search performance metrics, including rankings, traffic, engagement, and conversion rates, along with key mentions, citations, sentiment, and Share of Voice (SOV) with LLMs.
- Comprehensive SEO/GEO Auditing: Conduct comprehensive SEO/GEO audits covering technical SEO (schema and structured data, redirects, canonicals, site architecture, and broken backlinks), organic performance analysis, and competitive visibility benchmarking.
- GEO Methodology Execution: Run our GEO methodology end-to-end: develop test prompts from high-intent keywords, track brand mentions, sentiment, and Share of Voice (SOV) across LLMs using prompt-tracking tools, and identify the third-party sources informing AI answers.
- Audit-to-Action Translation: Translate audit findings into prioritized, realistic recommendations—ranging from quick wins to larger initiatives—tailored to each client's resources and business goals.
- Offsite Visibility Strategy: Develop and guide offsite visibility strategies including digital PR direction, Reddit and user-generated content (UGC) engagement, editorial citations, and third-party profile optimization.
- Client Engagement Management: Lead ongoing client engagements: monthly syncs, quarterly strategy sessions, content brief development, PDP and collection page optimization, and performance reporting (organic KPIs, AI referral traffic, and GEO Share of Voice).
- Stakeholder Presentation: Present audits and strategy directly to senior client stakeholders, explaining complex and evolving concepts in plain, confident language.
- New Business Support: Support new business initiatives by contributing audits, methodology walkthroughs, and strategic points of view (POVs) to pitches and proposals.
- Site Redesigns & Platform Migrations: Advise on the SEO/GEO implications of site redesigns and platform migrations, including URL transition planning, in partnership with our design and engineering teams.
- Industry & Methodology Evolution: Stay ahead of how AI search is evolving—separating signal from noise—and feed that thinking back into Barrel's methodology, service offerings, and thought leadership.
- Content Recommendations: Propose specific edits to existing web pages and recommend the creation of new content to enhance organic search rankings and AI search visibility and citations.
- Citation Management: Oversee and manage citations and online listings to ensure accuracy and consistency across platforms.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with multiple internal stakeholders, including marketing, product, and content teams, to integrate SEO and AI search strategies into their initiatives.
- Task Management and Workflow: Assign tasks to team members, review draft content, and manage the content production pipeline to ensure timely delivery and publication.
- Workstream Management: Effectively manage numerous concurrent workstreams, prioritizing tasks and ensuring all project deadlines are met.
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years in SEO, with meaningful recent experience in GEO/AI search visibility work.
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- Minimum 6 years of experience related to the job description.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven expertise in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with a strong understanding of current algorithms and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience with AI-driven search technologies and their impact on content visibility.
- Proficiency in conducting in-depth keyword research and understanding search intent.
- Experience in developing and implementing successful SEO and AI Search strategies.
- Ability to analyze complex data sets and translate them into actionable insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate recommendations to diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills, with a track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS) and SEO tools (e.g., Brightedge, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Google Analytics, Google Search Console).
- Familiarity with AI prompt engineering principles is a plus.
