Role overview
Position: Senior Manager / AVP - Commodity Forecasting
This is a senior delivery, client advisory and practice leadership role responsible for leading commodity forecasting engagements, strengthening forecasting methodologies, managing senior client stakeholders and developing a high-performing forecasting team.
Roles and responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end commodity price forecasting engagements across multiple clients, with ownership of delivery quality, forecasting rigour, timelines, governance and business impact.
- Own solution design for forecasting assignments, including scoping, effort estimation, work planning, model approach, data strategy, validation methodology and final client narrative.
- Provide technical leadership on econometric and time-series forecasting, driver selection, scenario analysis, back-testing, forecast accuracy review, structural-break handling and triangulation with market intelligence.
- Act as the primary client lead / project lead for assigned accounts; manage senior stakeholder interactions, expectation setting, escalation management, feedback loops and periodic business reviews.
- Translate commodity market developments across supply-demand, feedstocks, macroeconomics, policy, trade, logistics and geopolitical factors into clear forecast assumptions and actionable client recommendations.
- Review and challenge team outputs to ensure client-ready quality, clear storyline, robust logic, strong data support, well-explained risks and consistent adherence to agreed methodologies.
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of 8-15+ analysts / consultants / managers, including staffing, prioritisation, capability building, performance feedback, coaching and career development.
- Drive practice-building initiatives such as reusable forecasting templates, model QA checklists, automation workflows, data-source mapping, knowledge repositories and standard operating procedures.
- Partner with sales, solutions and account teams on proposals, demos, POCs, scope discussions and identification of up-sell / cross-sell opportunities within commodity intelligence and forecasting.
- Contribute to hiring, training, onboarding and broader organisational initiatives while promoting a culture of ownership, analytical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Ideal Candidate
- 10-14+ years of relevant experience in commodity forecasting, commodity research, procurement intelligence, market intelligence, econometrics, data science or consulting-led analytics.
- Thorough knowledge of econometrics and forecasting methods, including regression, time-series modelling, leading indicators, ARIMA / VAR / ARDL or similar approaches, model diagnostics and out-of-sample validation.
- Strong hands-on or supervisory capability in Python / R, with the ability to guide data automation, model development, dashboarding, repeatable workflows and quality-control frameworks.
- Deep understanding of commodity market drivers and ability to connect macroeconomic indicators, supply-demand balances, input costs, policy changes, trade flows and geopolitical events to price outlooks.
- Proven experience managing multiple client accounts or large workstreams independently, including senior stakeholder communication, ambiguous problem solving, issue resolution and commercial judgement.
- Strong people leadership skills, with experience managing sizeable teams, developing future managers, giving structured feedback and maintaining team motivation in a high-delivery environment.
- Ability to act as a technical advisor across multiple projects without necessarily being hands-on in every analysis, while still ensuring methodological robustness and client relevance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convert complex models and market signals into concise, senior-client-ready insights and recommendations.
- Commercial mindset, with the ability to identify solution improvements, new use cases, client expansion opportunities and productivity gains through tools, automation and process standardisation.
- Calm, composed and fair decision-maker with strong business acumen, sound judgement, high ownership, proactive communication and the ability to take tough decisions with reasoning and logic.
- Result-oriented, self-driven, collaborative and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and senior stakeholder expectations.
