Position Quality Inspector – Fabrication

Reporting To Production Manager

Job PurposeTo ensure that transformer tanks, radiators, and fabricated components are manufactured as per approved drawings, customer specifications, quality standards, and inspection requirements.

• Key ResponsibilitiesIncoming Material InspectionInspect incoming raw materials such as MS plates, structural steel, flanges, pipes, and purchased components.
• Verify Material Test Certificates (MTCs) and material traceability.
• Ensure materials meet specified dimensions and quality requirements.
• In-Process InspectionVerify dimensions as per approved drawings.
• Monitor fit-up activities before welding.
• Check welding parameters and compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
• Inspect weld joints for visual defects such as:
• Cracks
• Porosity
• Undercut
• Overlap
• Incomplete fusion
• Ensure proper identification and traceability of components.
• Final InspectionPerform dimensional inspection of completed transformer tanks.
• Verify nozzle locations, cover dimensions, radiator mounting arrangements, and accessories.
• Conduct visual inspection of finished products.
• Witness and record leak testing, pressure testing, and vacuum testing activities.
• Prepare final inspection reports and quality records.
• Surface Preparation & Painting InspectionCheck surface cleanliness before blasting.
• Verify blast profile and cleanliness standards.
• Monitor paint mixing, application, and curing.
• Measure and record Dry Film Thickness (DFT).
• Ensure painting complies with customer specifications.
• Documentation & ReportingMaintain inspection records and check sheets.
• Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for quality issues.
• Assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Maintain calibration records of measuring instruments.
• Support customer and third-party inspections.
• Required SkillsKnowledge of fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
• Ability to use measuring instruments:
• Vernier Caliper
• Micrometer
• Measuring Tape
• Height Gauge
• DFT Meter
• Weld Gauge
• Understanding of welding inspection techniques.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Familiarity with transformer tank manufacturing processes.
• Educational QualificationDiploma / ITI / BE in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.
• ExperienceFresher to 5 years experience in fabrication, transformer tank manufacturing, heavy fabrication, or steel structures.
