A ServiceNow Developer is an IT professional responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of solutions on the ServiceNow platform, with the objective of automating and optimizing business processes. This pivotal role necessitates the customization of applications, the configuration of complex workflows, and the integration of the platform with disparate enterprise systems to fulfill specific organizational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Custom Application Development: Constructing bespoke applications leveraging ServiceNow development environments, such as ServiceNow Studio and App Engine Studio, to address unique business needs.

• Platform Configuration and Customization: Implementing modifications to the user interface (including forms, lists, and UI policies), workflows, and core functionalities through the use of business rules, client scripts, and Access Control Lists (ACLs).

• Workflow Automation: Conceptualizing and deploying automated workflows and processes utilizing tools like Flow Designer and Workflow Editor to mitigate manual effort and enhance operational efficiency.

• Integration Development: Establishing connections between ServiceNow and other internal and external platforms (e.g., ERP, CRM, HR systems) via various integration methodologies, including REST/SOAP APIs, web services, and Integration Hub.

• Maintenance and Support: Conducting routine system maintenance, which encompasses applying essential updates, patches, and upgrades, alongside systematic troubleshooting of technical issues and code debugging.

• Collaboration and Documentation: Engaging proactively with business analysts, project managers, and key stakeholders to accurately elicit requirements, propose viable technical solutions, and produce comprehensive technical documentation.

• Testing and Quality Assurance: Developing and executing rigorous testing strategies (including unit, integration, and UAT) to ensure the quality, integrity, and performance of all developed solutions.

What experience you need  

1. Technical Skills

Proficiency in the ServiceNow platform: A profound comprehension of modules such as ITSM, ITOM, HRSD, and CSM any of the two modules.

Programming Languages: Expertise in JavaScript, including the utilization of GlideScript/GlideRecord APIs, is essential.

Web Technologies: Familiarity with standard web technologies, including HTML, CSS, Angularjs/React, XML, JSON, and AJAX.  Development Tools: Prior experience with ServiceNow Studio, Flow Designer, UI Builder.

2. Soft Skills ​

Problem-solving and Analytical skills: The capacity to analyze complex challenges and formulate effective, sustainable solutions.

Communication skills: Exceptional ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both specialized and non-technical audiences.

Collaboration and Teamwork: Proven experience operating within cross-functional teams and managing development cycles using Agile or Scrum methodologies.

3. Education & Certifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical field is typically a prerequisite. 

Certifications: The ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) is generally a foundational requirement.
