Position: Associate Engineer (P1) – Materials & Process Engineer

Qualifications & Skills

  • B.E./B.Tech, M.Tech, or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 2+ years of industrial experience in polymer composites, adhesives, sealants, coatings, or aerospace-grade materials systems.
  • Strong understanding of structure–property–processing relationships in polymers, composites, and adhesive systems.
  • Hands-on experience in adhesive formulation, composite processing, and bonding technologies (e.g., film adhesives, paste adhesives, co-curing/co-bonding).
  • Expertise in failure analysis and troubleshooting of bonded/composite structures.
  • Experience with durability assessment, accelerated aging, and service life prediction (Arrhenius modeling, environmental exposure studies).
  • Solid understanding of polymer–solvent and polymer–substrate interactions (swelling, plasticization, diffusion, compatibility).
  • Proficiency in material characterization techniques:
  • Thermal: TGA, DSC
  • Mechanical: DMA, tensile, peel, lap shear, fracture toughness
  • Chemical: FTIR, spectroscopy methods
  • Familiarity with composite manufacturing processes such as layup, vacuum bagging, autoclave curing, RTM, filament winding, or similar.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex datasets and translate into engineering decisions.
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to work in cross-functional and manufacturing-driven environments, handling ambiguity proactively.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead material and process troubleshooting for polymer composites and adhesive bonding in production environments.
  • Perform material characterization and data analysis, and present technical findings to internal stakeholders and management.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), material specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors for material selection, qualification, and continuous improvement.
  • Build deep understanding of composite manufacturing and adhesive application processes, including surface preparation, curing, and inspection methods.
  • Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, quality) on material capabilities, limitations, and selection.
  • Drive process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives related to materials, tooling, and manufacturing methods.
  • Support and execute process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and qualification activities for production.
  • Design and execute experimental studies (DOE) to investigate material behavior, validate hypotheses, and solve engineering problems.
  • Take technical ownership of projects, working independently to deliver solutions within timelines.
  • Ensure adherence to EHS, quality standards, and regulatory requirements in all activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and engineering excellence within the team.
