About the Role

The Associate Director, Conduct & Compliance Risk sits within the Institutional Conduct & Compliance Centre of Expertise (COE) and plays a critical role in driving best practice and continuous improvement in Conduct and Regulatory Risk Management across the Institutional Division.

 

As a trusted Line 1 Risk leader, you will partner closely with frontline business teams, Enterprise Risk theme experts, and Non-Financial Risk (NFR) stakeholders to strengthen the management of Conduct and Regulatory Risk across Institutional Banking. You will focus on end-to-end customer journeys, value chains, and risk and control environments to ensure sustainable risk outcomes.

 

This role leads top-down risk assessments, supports regulatory and policy change implementation, identifies emerging risks and control weaknesses, and partners with the business to design and embed effective conduct and compliance controls.

What will your day look like?

As an Associate Director – Conduct & Compliance Risk, you will:

 

  • Interpret and apply risk policies, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards across the Institutional business.
  • Lead and support the implementation of regulatory changes, policy updates, and risk framework enhancements.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify emerging risks, control gaps, and opportunities to strengthen the control environment.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to design, implement, and enhance effective risk and compliance controls.
  • Monitor Conduct and Compliance Risk profiles and support the ongoing management of Non-Financial Risk (NFR).
  • Prepare risk insights, thematic reviews, and reporting for senior leaders, governance forums, and risk committees.
  • Escalate material risks, control weaknesses, and compliance issues in accordance with governance requirements.
  • Act as a trusted Line 1 Risk partner, supporting business ownership and accountability for risk management.
  • Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, and business teams to drive consistent application of risk and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the uplift of risk culture, capability, and awareness across Institutional Banking.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen risk management practices and customer outcomes.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

  • 10+ years of professional experience within Banking or Financial Services, including 7+ years of experience in Conduct Risk, Compliance Risk, Regulatory Risk, Non-Financial Risk (NFR), Operational Risk, or related risk disciplines.
  • Mandatory experience within Institutional Banking environments, with exposure to Corporate Banking, Transaction Banking, Lending, Markets, Treasury, or Global Banking businesses.
  • Strong experience in Conduct Risk, Compliance Risk, Regulatory Risk, NFR, or Operational Risk management.
  • Experience working in large, complex, and highly regulated financial services organizations.
  • Proven experience leading or supporting regulatory change, risk remediation, control uplift, or compliance transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, risk assessments, control design, control assurance, and testing methodologies.
  • Experience identifying emerging risks, control gaps, and implementing sustainable risk management solutions.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory obligations and translate them into practical, business-focused outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of governance, risk reporting, escalation frameworks, and risk committee practices.
  • Experience preparing and presenting risk insights, reporting, and recommendations to senior stakeholders and governance forums.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across business, risk, compliance, audit, and control functions.
  • Demonstrated experience driving First Line of Defence (1LOD) risk ownership and accountability.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of Conduct Risk and Compliance Risk frameworks within a large financial institution.
  • Knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks and ORX Non-Financial Risk Taxonomy.
  • Experience supporting audits, assurance reviews, regulatory engagements, and remediation activities.
  • Exposure to end-to-end customer journeys, product governance, and product risk management.
  • Understanding of Institutional Banking products including Payments, Transaction Banking, Trade Finance, Lending, Markets, and Treasury.
  • Understanding of end-to-end credit processes across Institutional Banking segments.
