Job Purpose: This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of boiler operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in boiler systems, and a focus on continuous improvement.
Head - SME Boiler, Auxiliary, CHP and AHP and Plant SPOC
Operational Excellence:
Develop and implement strategies to enhance the reliability and availability of boiler operations.
Optimize boiler performance through efficiency improvement programs and operational best practices.
Lead initiatives to minimize downtime, reduce energy consumption, and maximize operational efficiency.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align operational goals with organizational objectives.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards in all boiler-related activities.
Maintenance and Reliability:
Develop preventive maintenance programs to ensure the longevity and reliability of boiler systems.
Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify maintenance needs and proactively address potential issues.
Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies to prioritize maintenance tasks effectively.
Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance teams to enhance their capabilities and efficiency.
Refine Scope of Work (SOW) for overhauls by incorporating expertise and failure data from all sites to ensure maximum availability.
Formulate audit teams, review observations, and facilitate the implementation of audit recommendations across sites.
Form Community of Interest (COI) teams to provide expertise and training during overhauls, utilizing manpower from various sites for mutual benefit.
Drive the reengineering process for developing spare parts locally, incorporating improvements and identifying suitable sources.
Safety and Compliance:
Establish and enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for boiler operations.
Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Continuously collect and analyze process safety data recieved from ENOC team to identify deviations in parameters that might indicate safety concerns, and implement remedies to address these issues.
Provide training and education to staff on safety best practices and emergency procedures.
Capture accident data and disseminate findings to all sites to prevent recurrence.
Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
Liaise with regulatory agencies and external auditors to ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
Utilize data analytics tools to monitor boiler performance metrics and identify optimization opportunities.
Develop dashboards and reports to track KPIs and provide insights to management.
Implement performance improvement initiatives based on data analysis and operational feedback.
Collaborate with engineering teams to implement process improvements and technological enhancements.
Regularly review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reflect best practices and lessons learned.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA):
Oversee conduction root cause analysis in case of boiler related issues.
Ensure corrective actions of RCA are replicated across all stations.
Management of Change (MOC):
Review and dispose of Management of Change (MOC) documents.
Provide suggestions and inputs for MOC to ensure compliance with technical and safety standards.
Site Single Point of Contact (SPOC):
Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for an assigned site, facilitating communication between the site and Head Office (HO).
Monitor daily performance metrics and identify deviations, communicating issues and necessary actions to the site management.
Support the execution of excellence projects proposed by the site, evaluate capital project proposals, and approve based on alignment with organizational goals.
Lead monthly Operational Review Meetings (ORM) to review plant operations, identify deviations, and discuss achievements.
Coordinate with Corporate support for resolving site-specific issues related to environment, health, and safety.
Conduct training sessions and share knowledge with site personnel, promoting continuous learning and development.
Organize annual conclave sessions with all sites to discuss failures, resolutions, and improvement strategies.
Merger and Acquisition (M&A) Activities:
Evaluate existing plant operations during M&A due diligence processes, identifying deviations from standard operating procedures.
Conduct site inspections and assessments to determine required improvements to align with organizational standards.
Provide management with recommendations on necessary investments and operational improvements.
Lead technical audits related to M&A activities, ensuring compliance with audit subjects and previous audit findings.
Oversee creation of M&A Due Diligence report.
Digitisation and Automation:
Execute comprehensive digitization strategies to optimise operational efficiency.
Implement automation solutions to support overall organisational goals / strategy.
Implement process and system improvements, adopting newer technologies and innovative ideas.
People and Team Engagement:
Participate in the recruitment process to attract and retain skilled personnel for the team.
Enhance employee engagement across the team to sustain a positive workplace culture.
Lead, inspire and mentor the team to foster a high-performance culture and ensure cross skilling through job rotation, technical and behavioural trainings.
Ensure proper succession planning in the team.
Foster a conducive environment for high employee retention by ensuring team satisfaction and professional development.

Educational Qualification:
B.E/ B.Tech Mechanical
Work Experience (Range of years):
Minimum of 20 years of experience in boiler and auxiliary maintainance with at least 15 years in a leadership role.
Preferred Industry:
Background in Power and Utilities sector with extensive experience in plant mechanical maintainance.
