Job Description
Audio video technician
An audio video technician (AV tech) is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining audio and video equipment at events, conferences, meetings, or other venues, including tasks like connecting cables, mixing sound, managing video feeds, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring the smooth delivery of audio-visual presentations; they often need to be adaptable to different environments and capable of quickly resolving technical problems on-site.
Key responsibilities
Equipment setup and operation:
Setting up and configuring audio and video equipment like microphones, speakers, projectors, cameras, mixing boards, video switcher, and recording devices.
Signal management:
Connecting cables, routing audio and video signals, adjusting levels, and monitoring signal quality.
Sound mixing:
Operating soundboards to balance audio levels, adjust effects, and mix multiple microphone inputs.
Video control:
Managing video feeds, switching between sources, and adjusting video settings
Technical support:
Troubleshooting technical issues, identifying equipment malfunctions, and performing basic repairs
Client interaction:
Communicating with clients to understand their needs, coordinating setup with event organizers, and providing technical guidance
Inventory management:
Maintaining an accurate inventory of audio-visual equipment, performing regular checks, and reporting any damage
Site preparation:
Assessing venue requirements, planning cable runs, and ensuring proper power supply for equipment
Skills and qualifications
Technical knowledge:
Strong understanding of audio and video equipment, including digital and analog systems signal processing, and networking protocols.
Problem-solving skills:
Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently
Physical dexterity:
Comfortable with lifting and moving heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in tight spaces
Customer service skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and event staff
Attention to detail:
Ability to maintain high standards of audio and video quality, ensuring precise setup and operation
