Advocate

The Advocate of a Cooperative Bank is responsible for providing legal advice and support to ensure the bank's operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and cooperative banking guidelines. The role includes drafting, reviewing, and vetting legal documents, agreements, contracts, loan and mortgage documentation, notices, and recovery-related correspondence. The Advocate represents the bank before courts, tribunals, arbitration forums, and regulatory authorities in matters related to loan recovery, civil litigation, consumer disputes, labor issues, and other legal proceedings. The Advocate advises the management on legal risks, regulatory compliance, and governance matters, coordinates with external counsel when required, and monitors the progress of ongoing legal cases. The role also involves conducting legal due diligence for secured loans, verifying property titles and related documents, supporting the recovery of non-performing assets (NPAs), maintaining legal records, and ensuring timely filing of legal documents and statutory submissions. The Advocate works closely with the management, recovery, credit, and administrative departments to safeguard the bank's legal interests, minimize legal risks, and support efficient and compliant banking operations while upholding confidentiality and professional ethics.
