Job Description
General Autonomy is a robotics startup founded by IIT Kanpur alumni. The founders previously founded ShareChat & Moj, a multi-billion dollar social network for internet users in India. We are based out of Bangalore and London, and building for global markets.
We are building an end to end multi-tasking Robotics platform(hardware and software) capable of doing everyday tasks, previously done by humans, in an indoor environment built suitably for fully abled humans. The form factors of the robots include (i) AMRs with arms and (ii) bipedal humanoid. Examples of such environments are large apartments, villas, factories, greenhouses, large retail stores and workshops etc. The tasks will not be limited to but include navigating, operating tools & appliances, organising, inspection, fetching & moving objects etc. The eventual goal involves completing complex activities that involve the aforesaid tasks in an orchestrated manner, for eg, cooking, cleaning etc.
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Technician to join our Robotics Engineering team to support the assembly, testing, inspection, and maintenance of robotic systems and subsystems. You will work closely with mechanical, electrical, and robotics engineers to build, troubleshoot, and improve robotic platforms in a fast-paced development environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble and disassemble robotic subsystems and mechanical assemblies using hand tools while following build instructions, torque specifications, fastener standards, and alignment requirements.
- Perform finishing and rework activities including filing, sanding, deburring, and fitment adjustments to ensure components meet quality and safety standards.
- Conduct incoming quality inspections for machined and fabricated parts using measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions, tolerances, threads, and overall workmanship.
- Support prototype builds, testing activities, troubleshooting, and iterative hardware improvements during product development.
- Maintain accurate build records, inventory of fasteners and consumables, part labeling, and build status tracking.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and safe workspace while adhering to workshop safety procedures and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and provide feedback to improve assembly processes, manufacturability, and product reliability.
Requirements:
- Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Production Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, manufacturing, industrial equipment, robotics, automotive, or related industries.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and precision measurement instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and basic wiring diagrams.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical finishing processes such as deburring, filing, sanding, and rework activities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to troubleshoot assembly issues and work effectively in a fast-paced prototyping environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with robotic systems, autonomous vehicles, drones, or industrial automation equipment.
- Familiarity with GD&T, tolerances, and mechanical fitment practices.
- Experience supporting prototype builds and engineering validation activities.
- Understanding of inventory management and build tracking processes.
- Exposure to machine shop practices, fabrication processes, or electromechanical assemblies.
