Job Description

Job Description:

The Service Steward plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of food and beverage service in the hospitality or restaurant industry. This position involves providing excellent support to waitstaff, maintaining cleanliness in dining and service areas, and ensuring that guests receive an exceptional dining experience. The Service Steward is expected to assist in a variety of tasks to support the dining team, while upholding high standards of cleanliness, safety, and organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Guest Service Support:
  • Assist waitstaff in delivering food and beverages to guests promptly and accurately.
  • Refill water glasses, replenish condiments, and ensure that guests’ needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Clear and reset tables between courses or after guests have finished, ensuring a clean and pleasant dining environment.
  1. Dining Area Maintenance:
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all dining and service areas, including wiping down tables, chairs, and floors.
  • Ensure that dining areas are fully stocked with clean tableware, napkins, and condiments.
  • Ensure all areas are sanitized according to health and safety regulations, including bathrooms and high-touch surfaces.
  1. Assistance to Kitchen and Front-of-House Staff:
  • Assist kitchen staff in organizing, plating, and preparing food for service.
  • Help organize and transport food and beverages from the kitchen to the dining area, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with waitstaff to fulfill special requests or dietary requirements of guests.
  1. Inventory and Equipment Management:
  • Monitor and manage the cleanliness and organization of all service equipment, including glassware, silverware, and serving trays.
  • Report any issues with service equipment or inventory shortages to management or the appropriate department.
  • Assist in receiving and storing inventory items such as napkins, linens, and cleaning supplies.
  1. Health, Safety, and Sanitation Compliance:
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain high standards of cleanliness in both the front-of-house and back-of-house areas.
  • Ensure all service tools and equipment are kept in proper working condition and are regularly sanitized.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations as mandated by local laws and industry standards.
  1. Customer Service:
  • Assist in providing excellent customer service by promptly addressing guest requests and offering assistance when needed.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor at all times, contributing to a positive dining experience for guests.
  • Address guest complaints or concerns regarding service or cleanliness and report them to management as appropriate.
  1. Teamwork and Communication:
  • Work effectively as part of the service team, collaborating with waitstaff, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth service.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure guest requests and needs are met quickly and efficiently.
  • Support other team members in maintaining an organized and efficient service flow during peak hours.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in the food and beverage industry or a similar hospitality role is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards is a plus.
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to customer service.

  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and perform under pressure.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift during long shifts.
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage service operations.
  • Professional demeanor and good interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to carry and transport items, including trays of food and beverages.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects such as stock or equipment.
