Staff Nurse – IVF Centre

Job Summary
The IVF Staff Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing fertility treatments. The nurse assists fertility specialists during consultations and procedures, coordinates patient care, administers medications, educates patients, maintains accurate records, and ensures a safe, compassionate, and confidential environment throughout the IVF journey.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Care
- Assess and monitor patients during fertility treatment.
- Record vital signs and relevant clinical information.
- Prepare patients for consultations and procedures.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
- Ensure patient comfort and privacy at all times.
2. IVF Cycle Coordination
- Coordinate patient appointments and treatment schedules.
- Track IVF stimulation protocols and medication timelines.
- Ensure timely communication with patients regarding investigations and procedures.
- Follow up with patients regarding treatment progress and medication compliance.
3. Medication Administration
- Administer prescribed medications, including:
- Gonadotropin injections
- GnRH agonists/antagonists
- hCG trigger injections
- Progesterone and estrogen therapy
- Educate patients on self-administration of fertility injections.
- Monitor for adverse drug reactions and report concerns promptly.
4. Procedure Assistance
Assist fertility specialists during:
- Follicular monitoring
- Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
- Oocyte Retrieval (OPU)
- Embryo Transfer (ET)
- Hysteroscopy
- Minor OT procedures
Prepare instruments, maintain aseptic precautions, and assist before, during, and after procedures.
5. Patient Education & Counselling
- Explain IVF treatment protocols.
- Educate patients on medication schedules.
- Provide instructions before and after procedures.
- Counsel patients regarding lifestyle modifications, diet, and follow-up care.
- Address patient concerns with empathy and professionalism.
6. Infection Prevention & Control
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques.
- Follow sterilization and infection control protocols.
- Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal.
- Monitor cleanliness of procedure rooms and nursing stations.
7. Documentation
Maintain accurate records of:
- Nursing assessments
- Medication administration
- Procedure notes
- Consent forms
- Patient education provided
- Treatment cycle documentation
- Daily nursing reports
8. Emergency Care
- Recognize and respond to medical emergencies.
- Assist in managing allergic reactions, vasovagal episodes, or ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
- Maintain emergency drugs and equipment readiness.
- Perform Basic Life Support (BLS) when required.
9. Equipment Management
- Ensure proper functioning of medical equipment.
- Report equipment faults promptly.
- Maintain adequate stock of nursing supplies and consumables.
10. Coordination
Work closely with:
- Fertility Specialists
- Embryologists
- Anesthetists
- Pharmacists
- Laboratory staff
- Reception and Front Office
- Housekeeping
Qualifications
Essential
- B.Sc. Nursing or GNM
- Registered Nurse and Midwife (RN/RM)
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration
Preferred
- 1–3 years of experience in IVF, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Operation Theatre, or Labour Room
- BLS certification (preferred)
Skills Required

- IV cannulation and injection administration

Working Hours
- Rotational shifts (8–9 hours)
- Availability during weekends and holidays as per roster
- On-call support during IVF procedures when required
