SMT TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION.


JOB TITLE: SMT operator & SMT technician

DEPARTMENT: Production

PLACE OF WORK: Bangalore.

SKILL LEVEL: Semiskilled & skilled

EDUCATION: ITI-Electronics/Electrical

Diploma- EEE/ ECE/Mechatronics

EXPERIENCE: 3 to 6 years.

INDUSTRY: Aerospace and Defense.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup and Operation, Material Preparation and Feeding
  • Must be able to Identify the components & packages of the components, must be able to extract the information from TDS, drawing & SOP & implement it.
  • Operating, programming & set-up, maintaining, Keep the production line running smoothly, ensure the machines and processes are optimized, and handle placement and quality checks. 
  • Configure and calibrate SMT machines for each production run, load components, solder paste, and other materials. 
  • Develop and load machine programs; configure nozzles, conveyor speeds, and materials for each run.
  • Ensure the SMT process follows schedules; detect and report malfunctions or errors. 
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.


Quality Control and Inspection

  • Inspect PCBs for defects (misaligned components, soldering issues) using tools like Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) Ensure solder paste inspection (SPI) and other quality checks meet specifications.
  • Follow IPC-A-610 and ISO standards
  • Maintain ESD safety practices.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance
  • Diagnose and fix machine issues; perform routine maintenance to prevent downtime
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions; collaborate with maintenance teams for complex repairs


Collaboration and Documentation

Work with engineers, technicians, and assemblers to optimize the SMT process Record production runs and machine performance; report issues to supervisors.


Education and Training: 

Train operators on how to use SMT machines & new SMT technology, tools and helping with simple tasks, make understand them to learn safety rules and how to keep the SMT line clean. 

Computer literate: 

Capable of loading and navigating through multiple programs for all surface mount equipment
