Position Summary:

The Associate Director – IT will provide collaborative site and leadership support within a global biopharmaceutical company whose mission is to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines that help patients prevail over serious diseases. The incumbent will be responsible to support all IT activities in support of R&D activities in the Biocon Bristol-Myers Squibb Company R&D Center (BBRC). The position will report directly to the Director, Business Site Operations BBRC and will be a key member of the local leadership team.

 Primary responsibilities include:

• Lead the coordination, implementation, and operational support of IT and Informatics systems and processes supporting Research & Development and GPS activities at the Biocon Bristol Myers Squibb Research & Development Center (BBRC).
• Provide strong leadership and deep technical expertise across scientific IT platforms, including Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN), Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Chromatography Data Systems (CDS), and cheminformatics and bioinformatics tools, in support of pharmaceutical research workflows.
• Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple, diverse IT initiatives aligned to Research and GPS priorities, balancing stakeholder needs, delivery risk, and operational stability, in close collaboration with Global BI&T.
• Own the BBRC IT infrastructure and operating environment, ensuring reliability, performance, security, and business continuity.
• Lead the BBRC IT team through Annual Operating Planning in partnership with Syngene, ensuring alignment with BBRC needs, budgets, and contractual obligations.
• Identify and implement appropriate, cost disciplined technology solutions to address business problem statements, in alignment with global BMS BI&T policies, platforms, and architectural standards.
• Apply strong ITIL / ITSM discipline across incident, problem, change, and service operations; identify and address high priority issues through effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Coordinate and manage continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality, efficiency, and end user experience.
• Collaborate closely with global BI&T product owners and teams, platform teams, and diverse IT partners to deploy enterprise IT capabilities effectively at BBRC.
• Lead a matrix IT organization, acting as the primary site liaison for the adoption of BMS tools, standards, and IT best practices.
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen cybersecurity posture, IT controls, and data protection across BBRC systems and services.
• Promote Agile delivery practices (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and to improve delivery speed, transparency, and responsiveness.
• Encourage AI fluency and AI-enabled ways of working, leveraging enterprise AI tools and automation to improve productivity and reduce manual effort.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, accountability, and continuous learning, investing in the development of self, peers, and team through coaching, mentoring, and real-time feedback.
• Communicate information openly and transparently, seek diverse viewpoints, escalate risks appropriately, and align individual and team objectives to deliver company goals.
• Support the creation and maintenance of operational documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, manuals, and training materials, to ensure knowledge continuity and effective end-user support.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline
• 15+ years of IT experience, including 5+ years in IT leadership roles within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry
• Proven experience supporting Research & Development IT environments

Technical & Professional Skills

• Strong expertise with scientific applications and platforms used in pharmaceutical research (ELN, LIMS, CDS, informatics tools)
• Demonstrated experience with ITIL/ITSM processes and operational governance
• Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and working within an Agile or hybrid delivery model
• AI fluent leader with experience adopting AI enabled tools and practices
• Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leaders across sites and functions

Site-essential roles require 100% of shifts onsite at your assigned facility. Site-by-design roles may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at your assigned facility.
