Big Data Application Engineer

Purpose of this role is to provide Support for Bigdata applications and Cloudera administration. You will be responsible for providing 2nd and 3rd level technical support for customers. 80% of work will be production support, with remaining 20% supporting development activities and should be able guide the team.

Role Summary: 

This is a true DevOps engineer role where you'll work collaboratively with software engineering to deploy and operate our Big data systems. Help automate and streamline our operations and processes. Maintain tools for deployment, monitoring and operations. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production, provide permanent fixes and automate regular production issues. For this role, 70% of the responsibilities involve production support, while 30% focus on development, particularly in big data.

• Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools
• Ability to code and script
• Experience with systems and IT operations
• Being comfortable with frequent, incremental code changes and deployment
• Strong grasp of automation tools
• Understanding and focus on business outcomes
• Understanding and efficiency in collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders
• Technical level 3 support of applications to ensure highest standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security and performance required by our internal and external clients.  
• Required to support multiple applications in production.
• Development and enhancement of applications running in production
• Fixing recurring issues and automation of level 1 support

Requirements:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Science / Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering 
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience Scala/Java/Python/Big Data application Development
• Proficient in Core Java /Python Development

• Microservices architecture knowledge
• Good knowledge in Spark, Hive, Impala, Sqoop, Oozie, HDFS, Hive, etc.
• Good knowledge of Hadoop architecture and support
• Be able to debug Scala/Java/Python code.
• Good understanding of distributed computing environments
• Databases Knowledge (MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL)
• Expert understanding of ETL principles and how to apply them within Hadoop.
• Prior working experience with Cloudera CDH.
• Involved in problem determination using application and system error logs.
• Strong knowledge of Shell Scripting, Linux, Network, TCP/IP  
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Good communication and presentation skills - constant communication, regular update and follow-ups with various stake holders.
• Good understanding of technical support process.
• Good Team player and flexible to move around technologies and domain.
• Willing to learn new tools and technologies as and when required
• Quick learner, self-motivated.
