Software Development Director

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc. The role is to lead the data plane team for developing and operating the part of  MySQL HeatWave service that is offered as part of the fully managed MySQL Database Service offered on OCI. Heatwave offers online analytical processing (OLAP) capabilities to accelerate MySQL performance by orders of magnitude for analytics, eliminating the need for complex and costly Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to move data to a separate analytics database.

As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture. In particular, you will ensure following breadth of product and service roadmap is delivered to delight customers and continue to maintain product innovation leadership in the OLAP market.

• Query Offload and SQL Coverage Expansion
  • Own the roadmap for increasing HeatWave query offload coverage, SQL/function compatibility, and customer workload adoption across enterprise use cases.
• HeatWave Execution Engine and Runtime Reliability
  • Lead features related to the RAPID execution engine, query processing layers, memory management, error handling, and execution stability at scale.
• JSON Platform and MySQL JSON Duality Integration
  • Own the end-to-end JSON ecosystem in HeatWave, including infrastructure, function coverage, performance optimization, and integration with MySQL JSON Duality.
• Customer-Driven Feature Incubation and Production Readiness
  • Lead features that emerge from strategic customer needs, including PoC-to-production enablement, onboarding blockers, offload strategies, and go-live readiness.
• Performance Engineering and Benchmarking
  • Own benchmark-led optimization initiatives for complex analytics workloads, including large-scale dataset performance tuning and competitive positioning.
• Cross-Functional Escalation and Delivery Programs
  • Manage technically complex, high-visibility programs that require coordination across engineering, QA, release, support, and field teams to resolve P1 issues and unblock adoption.
• Next-Generation OLAP / Disaggregated Architecture
  • Lead architectural initiatives for future HeatWave evolution, especially in compute-storage disaggregation, serverless execution, and elastic OLAP services.
