Laser Cutting Operator

Role OverviewThe Laser Cutting Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining fiber laser cutting machines to produce precision sheet metal components per engineering drawings and customer specifications. The role requires a strong understanding of CNC laser programming, material handling, and quality standards to achieve consistent output with minimal scrap.

• Key ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate fiber laser cutting machines (CO₂/fiber) for MS, SS, aluminium, and GI sheets ranging from 0.5 mm to 25 mm thickness.
• Load and execute CNC programs from nesting software (Lantek, Sigmanest, Trumpf TruTops) ensuring optimal material utilization and minimal scrap.
• Perform pre-shift checks: laser power calibration, nozzle condition, lens cleanliness, assist gas pressure (O₂/N₂/Air), and machine zero-point verification.
• Conduct first-article dimensional inspection on cut parts using vernier calipers, steel rule, and templates before releasing batch production.
• Monitor cutting quality in real-time; adjust parameters (power, speed, focus height, assist gas flow) to maintain cut edge quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Execute routine preventive maintenance: lens and nozzle cleaning, mirror alignment checks, chiller water level, and lubrication per OEM schedule.
• Maintain production job sheets, material consumption logs, and shift output reports accurately.
• Report machine faults, tool wear, quality deviations, or safety hazards to the Production Supervisor immediately.
