Job Description
1. Mechanical Design & Development
Design, develop, and optimize mechanical systems for robotics and UAV platforms.
Work on mechanisms including linkages, actuators, joints, and motion systems.
Develop transmission systems including gear trains, belt drives, and precision motion components.
Perform detailed gear design (spur, helical, planetary systems) considering load, efficiency, and durability.
Create 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings for manufacturing.
2. Robotics & UAV Integration
Design lightweight and high-strength structures suitable for UAV and robotic applications.
Integrate mechanical subsystems with electronics, sensors, and control systems.
Develop mechanical architectures for propulsion systems, payload integration, and landing mechanisms.
Understand UAV configurations such as multirotor, fixed-wing, and hybrid VTOL systems.
3. Simulation & Analysis
Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis for aerodynamic optimization of UAV components.
Conduct structural analysis (FEA) for strength, fatigue, and vibration performance.
Analyze airflow, drag, lift, and stability characteristics.
Validate designs through simulation and correlate with experimental data.
4. Prototyping & Testing
Build and test prototypes, including rapid prototyping using 3D printing and CNC machining.
Conduct functional testing of mechanisms, transmissions, and UAV structures.
Analyze test results and iterate designs for performance improvement.
Work on failure analysis and root cause identification.
5. Manufacturing & Materials
Select appropriate materials (metals, composites, polymers) based on strength-to-weight ratio and application.
Understand manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, composite layups, and additive manufacturing.
Work with vendors and production teams to ensure manufacturability and quality.
6. Documentation & Collaboration
Prepare technical documentation including design reports, calculations, and test results.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electronics, software, controls).
Participate in design reviews and contribute to system-level decision-making.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of:
Mechanisms and machine design
Gear design and transmission systems
Kinematics and dynamics
Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
Experience with simulation tools:
CFD (Solidworks)
Knowledge of aerodynamics principles and UAV performance parameters.
Familiarity with tolerance analysis and GD&T.
