Job Title- Dental Nurse / Dental Chair-Side Nurse

Employment Type - Full-Time

Qualification - 12th pass/ GNM / B.Sc. Nursing

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To assist dental surgeons in providing safe, quality patient care in compliance with NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) standards, ensuring infection control, patient safety, and documentation integrity at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Clinical Assistance

• Assist the dentist during all dental procedures (extractions, fillings, RCT, scaling, implants, orthodontics, etc.)
• Prepare and pass instruments, materials, and medications as directed by the dentist
• Perform chairside four-handed dentistry support
• Monitor patient vitals before, during, and after procedures
• Administer local anaesthesia preparations

2. Infection Prevention & Control

• Follow and maintain standard precautions (PPE, hand hygiene per WHO 5 moments)
• Perform sterilisation and disinfection of instruments using autoclave (Class B/N) per validated cycles
• Maintain sterilisation logs, biological indicators, and spore test records
• Ensure single-use items are never reused
• Segregate biomedical waste per BMW Management Rules 2016 and NABH IPC standards

3. Patient Safety & Care

• Conduct pre-procedure patient assessment (allergies, medications, medical history review)
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers before every procedure
• Obtain and document informed consent in the patient record
• Educate patients on post-operative care, oral hygiene, and medication compliance
• Respond to dental emergencies (syncope, allergic reactions, hypoglycaemia) using clinic emergency protocol

4. Documentation & Medical Records

• Maintain accurate, legible, and timely entries in patient case records (paper/EMR)
• Record medication administration including dose, route, time, and adverse reactions
• Maintain procedure checklists, daily OPD registers, and inventory logs
• Ensure patient confidentiality and data privacy per clinic policy

5. Equipment & Inventory Management

• Perform daily checklist of dental unit, suction, light, and monitoring equipment
• Report equipment defects/breakdown to the biomedical/maintenance team
• Monitor and maintain stock levels of consumables, medicines, and disposables
• Raise indent requests for replenishment of dental materials

6. Quality & Accreditation Compliance (NABH Standards)

• Participate in NABH internal audits, mock drills (fire, cardiac arrest, etc.), and quality improvement activities
• Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and clinical protocols
• Report adverse events, near misses, and sentinel events through the incident reporting system
• Maintain compliance with NABH standards: COP, IPC, MOM, HRM, FMS

7. Team & Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain professional conduct, grooming, and uniform standards
• Attend mandatory training, CDE sessions, and NABH orientation programmes
• Support training of junior staff and interns on chairside protocols
• Coordinate with front desk for appointment management and patient flow

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education: 12th/GNM / B.Sc. Nursing;

• Registration: not required
• Experience: 1–3 years in a dental/oral surgery setting preferred; freshers with dental nursing training considered
• Additional: BLS/BCLS certification (mandatory or to be completed within 6 months of joining)
