Software Development Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Lead SAP Fiori/ABAP Reports Developer & Technical Anchor to join our balanced product team. In this dual-hatted role, you will serve as the technical anchor, following the architectural direction, and providing Ford IERP development standards including clean core principles. You will be hands-on in designing, developing, and optimizing modern user interfaces using SAP Fiori/SAPUI5, while leveraging robust backend ABAP programming, CDS Views, Datasphere, and AMDP to deliver high-performance, real-time reporting solutions on SAP S/4HANA.

As the Technical Anchor, you will be the cornerstone of the development team—fostering a culture of technical excellence, delivery tracking, driving agile methodologies (such as pair programming and test-driven development), and aligning technical implementation with product strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership & Anchor Role

• Technical Governance: Act as the primary technical authority for the product team, establishing and enforcing coding standards, code review processes, and architectural best practices.
• Delivery & Tracking: Track project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues to ensure on-time delivery. Coordinate SIT, UAT, L&P, Dry Run, and Production deployment activities.
• Agile Advocacy: Drive agile engineering practices within the team, including Test-Driven Development (TDD), continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and automated testing.
• Product Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, prioritize deliverables, and manage scope changes.
• Risk & Debt Management: Identify technical debt and proactively propose refactoring strategies to ensure system stability, security, and scalability.

2. SAP Fiori & UX Development

• Standard Fiori Extension: Extend, configure, and customize standard SAP Fiori applications and Fiori Elements (List Reports, Analytical List Pages, Overview Pages).
• Fiori Launchpad: Configure and manage SAP Fiori Launchpad, including catalogs, groups, roles, and spaces/pages.
• OData Services: Design, develop, and optimize SAP Gateway OData services (v2 and v4) using SEGW or CDS-based BOPF/RAP frameworks.
• UI/UX Design: Design and develop custom SAP Fiori/SAPUI5 applications using MVC architecture, JavaScript, XML, and CSS.

3. Advanced ABAP & Reporting Development

• Modern ABAP Reporting: Develop complex, high-performance analytical and operational reports using ABAP on HANA, Core Data Services (CDS) Views, and ABAP Managed Database Procedures (AMDP).
• S/4HANA Optimization: Utilize modern ABAP syntax and object-oriented programming (OOP) to build scalable backend logic, ensuring optimal push-down of data processing to the HANA database.
• Legacy Integration: Maintain and optimize legacy ABAP reports (ALV, classical, interactive) and transition them to modern S/4HANA-compatible architecture where appropriate.
• Performance Tuning: Perform deep-dive performance analysis, troubleshooting, and tuning of SQL queries, CDS views, and ABAP code using tools like SAT, ST05, and ATC (ABAP Test Cockpit).

Required Qualifications & Experience

Experience Profile (8–10 Years Total)

• Overall SAP Development: 8+ years of hands-on experience in SAP ABAP and Fiori development.
• SAP S/4HANA & Reporting: 5+ years of experience working with SAP S/4HANA, specifically building CDS Views, AMDP, and utilizing virtual data models (VDM).
• SAP Fiori / SAPUI5: 4+ years of dedicated experience developing SAPUI5/Fiori applications, custom UI components, and OData services.
• Technical Lead/Anchor Role: 2+ years of experience acting as a Technical Lead, Anchor, or Scrum Developer Lead on a balanced team, with a proven track record of mentoring others.

 

Technical Skill Set

• Backend Languages & Frameworks: Advanced ABAP, Object-Oriented ABAP, ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP) or Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP).
• HANA Database Technologies: CDS Views (with annotations and access controls), AMDP, Table Functions, and SQLScript.
• Frontend Technologies: SAPUI5, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, XML, JSON, and Fiori Elements.
• Integration: SAP Gateway, OData (v2/v4), RFC, BAPIs, and ALE/IDoc.
• Tools & Platforms: Eclipse (ADT), SAP Web IDE / SAP Business Application Studio (BAS), SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform) Cloud Foundry.
• DevOps & Testing: Experience with ABAP Unit, OPA5/UIVeri5 for Fiori testing, Git/gCTS, and SAP Transport Management.

Preferred/Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Familiarity with BI report development using Datasphere, GCP Big Query, and Qlik Sense or Power BI
• SAP Certifications in ABAP Development, SAP S/4HANA, or SAP Fiori/SAPUI5.
• Experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) extension suite and integration suite.
• Experience in the Automotive or Manufacturing sector.
• Knowledge of SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) integration.
