Project Engineer – Fire Fighting Systems (Job Description)
Job Title: Project Engineer – Fire Fighting Systems
Department: Projects / Engineering
Reporting To: Project Manager / Head of Projects
Job Summary
The Project Engineer – Fire Fighting Systems is responsible for planning, execution, supervision, testing, commissioning, and handover of fire protection and fire fighting system projects. The role involves coordinating with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and government authorities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution
Plan and execute fire fighting and fire protection projects.
Supervise installation of:
Fire Hydrant Systems
Sprinkler Systems
Fire Alarm Systems
Clean Agent Suppression Systems
Foam Systems
Water Mist Systems
Fire Pumps and Pump Houses
Monitor project schedules and ensure timely completion.
Site Management
Conduct site inspections and progress reviews.
Coordinate manpower, materials, tools, and equipment.
Ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
Resolve site execution issues and technical challenges.
Design & Engineering
Review project drawings, BOQs, and technical specifications.
Prepare shop drawings and as-built drawings.
Coordinate with consultants and clients for approvals.
Ensure compliance with relevant fire safety codes and standards.
Testing & Commissioning
Conduct pressure testing and system performance testing.
Coordinate inspections with fire authorities and consultants.
Prepare commissioning reports and handover documents.
Ensure successful project handover to clients.
Quality & Safety
Implement quality control procedures.
Ensure adherence to safety regulations and permit requirements.
Conduct toolbox talks and safety inspections.
Maintain project documentation and records.
Procurement & Coordination
Prepare material requisitions and technical evaluations.
Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors.
Monitor material deliveries and inventory.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
Maintain project correspondence and records.
Track project costs and variations.
Submit completion reports and project closeout documents.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fire & Safety Engineering, or related field.
Knowledge of fire protection systems and relevant standards.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office.
Knowledge of project planning software is preferred.
Experience
Project Engineer: 3–8 years experience in fire fighting system projects.
Experience in industrial, commercial, warehouse, or infrastructure projects preferred.
Knowledge of Standards
National Building Code (NBC)
IS 15105 – Sprinkler Systems
IS 3844 – Fire Hydrant Systems
IS 13039 – Fire Detection & Alarm Systems
