Job Description
Mould Maintenance Engineer – Injection MouldingLocation: Spectra Pipes – Doddaballapur Factory
Department: Tool Room / Maintenance
Reports To: Production Head / Plant Head
Purpose of the Role
To ensure all injection moulds are maintained in excellent running condition, breakdowns are minimised, mould life is improved, and production achieves consistent quality with minimum rejection and downtime.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preventive Maintenance of Injection Moulds
• Create and follow mould-wise preventive maintenance schedules.
• Maintain PM frequency based on number of shots/cycles completed.
• Ensure regular cleaning, lubrication and inspection of moulds.
• Maintain mould history cards for every mould.
• Track recurring issues and implement permanent solutions.
2. Breakdown Maintenance
• Attend mould-related production breakdowns immediately.
• Identify and repair issues like:
- Flash formation
- Ejector pin problems
- Core/cavity damage
- Cooling issues
- Slider movement issues
- Gate problems
- Part sticking issues
- Alignment problems
• Reduce mould downtime and improve machine availability.
3. Tool Room Activities
• Handle basic machining and repair work:
- Grinding
- Polishing
- Drilling
- Fitting
- Minor machining
• Coordinate with external tool rooms for major repairs/modifications.
• Maintain required mould spares inventory.
4. New Mould Trials & Development Support
• Participate in new mould trials.
• Check mould performance before production approval.
• Identify improvements required in mould design.
• Work with mould suppliers for corrections/modifications.
5. Mould Change & Setting Support
• Ensure safe mould loading/unloading.
• Inspect mould condition before installation.
• Verify:
- Clamping
- Water connections
- Ejector movement
- Safety systems
• Train operators on correct mould handling.
6. Documentation & Systems
Maintain:
• Mould master list
• Preventive maintenance records
• Breakdown reports
• Spare consumption records
• Modification history
• Mould life tracking (number of shots)
7. Continuous Improvement
• Improve mould reliability.
• Reduce cycle time through mould improvements.
• Reduce rejection caused by tooling.
• Suggest modifications for productivity improvement.
Required Experience
• ITI / Diploma – Tool & Die Making / Mechanical
• 0-3 years experience in injection mould maintenance
• Experience in PVC fittings moulds preferred
• Hands-on knowledge of:
- Multi-cavity moulds
- Hot runner/cold runner systems
- Core pulling mechanisms
- Hydraulic/pneumatic mould systems
