Job Description
Job Description: Picker, Packer, and Loader
Industry: Automotive Spare Parts Export & DistributionPosition Type: Full-TimeDepartment: Warehouse & LogisticsReports To: Warehouse Supervisor / Logistics Manager
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and physically capable Picker, Packer, and Loader to join our dynamic warehouse team in the automotive spare parts export and distribution sector. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and efficient handling of automotive components, ranging from small fasteners to large body panels and engine parts. This position is essential for maintaining our high standards of order accuracy, secure packaging for international transit, and timely dispatch of shipments to our global clientele.
Detailed Scope of Work
The core responsibilities of this role are divided into several key operational areas within the warehouse environment.
1. Unloading and Receiving
•
Safe Unloading: Safely and efficiently unload incoming shipments of automotive spare parts from delivery trucks and shipping containers using appropriate manual handling techniques and material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, hand trucks).
•
Initial Inspection: Conduct preliminary visual inspections of received goods to identify any obvious signs of damage or discrepancies in the shipment.
•
Staging: Move unloaded materials to designated receiving and staging areas for further processing and sorting.
2. Sorting and Put-Away
•
Categorization: Sort incoming automotive parts based on part numbers, categories, sizes, and destination zones within the warehouse.
•
Inventory Allocation: Accurately place sorted items into their designated storage bins, racks, or shelving units according to the warehouse management system (WMS) guidelines.
•
Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible storage environment to facilitate efficient picking operations.
3. Order Picking
•
Order Interpretation: Read and interpret customer orders, pick tickets, or digital instructions via handheld devices to determine the exact items and quantities required.
•
Accurate Retrieval: Navigate the warehouse to locate and retrieve the correct automotive spare parts. This requires strict attention to detail to differentiate between similar-looking components and verifying part numbers.
•
Batch Picking: Efficiently gather items for multiple orders simultaneously when required, ensuring no cross-contamination of orders.
4. Scanning and Quality Assurance
•
Barcode Scanning: Utilize handheld RF scanners or barcode readers to scan each picked item, ensuring real-time inventory tracking and order accuracy.
•
Verification: Cross-reference scanned items against the original order requirements to confirm that the correct part and quantity have been selected.
•
Defect Identification: Perform a secondary quality check during the scanning process to identify any defective, damaged, or incorrect parts before they proceed to the packing stage.
5. Packing for Export
•
Material Selection: Select appropriate packaging materials (e.g., heavy-duty corrugated boxes, bubble wrap, foam inserts, custom crates) based on the size, weight, and fragility of the automotive parts, keeping international shipping standards in mind.
•
Secure Packaging: Carefully pack items to prevent movement, damage, or corrosion during long-distance transit. This includes applying protective coatings or using anti-rust packaging for sensitive metal components.
•
Labeling and Documentation: Apply accurate shipping labels, handling instructions (e.g., "Fragile," "This Side Up"), and necessary export documentation to the exterior of the packages. Ensure all packages are sealed securely using industrial tape or strapping.
6. Loading and Dispatch
•
Palletizing: Stack packed boxes securely onto pallets, ensuring even weight distribution and stability. Shrink-wrap pallets tightly for secure transport.
•
Container Loading: Load pallets and individual oversized items into outbound shipping containers or delivery trucks. Optimize space utilization while adhering to weight distribution and safety regulations.
•
Final Verification: Assist in the final count and verification of loaded items against the shipping manifest before the vehicle departs.
Requirements and Qualifications
•
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
•
Experience: Previous experience in a warehouse environment, preferably within the automotive parts, manufacturing, or export/logistics industry.
•
Technical Skills: Familiarity with using handheld RF scanners, barcode readers, and basic warehouse management software.
•
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in reading part numbers, matching orders, and performing quality checks.
•
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment and communicate effectively with supervisors and peers.
Physical Demands
•
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy automotive parts and packages (up to 50 lbs / 23 kg independently, and heavier items with assistance or equipment).
•
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching throughout the shift.
•
Capability to operate manual material handling equipment safely.
Work Environment
•
The role is based in a warehouse setting, which may experience variations in temperature and noise levels.
•
Requires adherence to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed boots, high-visibility vests, and safety glasses.
