Role Overview

The Data Architect & Modeller is responsible for designing, developing, and managing the organization’s data architecture to support business needs and strategic objectives. This role supports the Head of Data Architecture, Strategy Lead, and Data Engineering teams in delivering a robust enterprise data approach.

The role focuses on defining enterprise data models, building scalable data platforms, and enabling ‘one source of truth’ and ‘one version of the truth’ through strong data modelling, governance, and best practices.

This position requires strong technical expertise in modern data platforms, combined with strategic thinking, stakeholder collaboration, and the ability to support cross-functional initiatives within a highly regulated environment.

 

Background

KPMG in the UK have recently appointed a Chief Data Officer to establish and embed an enterprise data strategy as part of a significant digital transformation initiative.

To support this, a data modeller is required to work closely with the Strategy Lead and Head of Data Architecture & Engineering to:

• Develop an enterprise data model
• Support the build-out of a data platform
• Embed data management best practices

Enable a consistent and governed approach to data across the firm

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Architecture & Modelling

• Design enterprise-wide and domain-level data models aligned to business requirements
• Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models
• Support the Head of Data Architecture in creating and maintaining data models
• Contribute to the enterprise data model as a strategic asset
• Define data integration patterns and architecture frameworks
• Support creation of data flows

2. Data Strategy, Governance & Standards

• Support data model governance processes
• Establish and enforce data standards, frameworks, and best practices
• Contribute to data dictionaries and business glossaries
• Support data definitions working groups and governance bodies
• Ensure data quality, security, compliance, and traceability
• Maintain data architecture documentation and guidelines
• Build materials and define processes for Data Architecture assurance services

3. Platform & Solution Delivery

• Support the build-out of a modern enterprise data platform
• Partner with engineering teams to design and implement data solutions
• Support BI, analytics, and data engineering initiatives
• Ensure alignment of architecture with business and technical objectives

4. Metadata & Data Management Capabilities

• Support designing metadata capabilities and leveraging AI capabilities
• Contribute to metadata management and repositories (e.g., ER/Idera)
• Enable data lineage, traceability, and system-of-record concepts
• Support implementation of data management best practices

5. Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with strategy, architecture, and engineering stakeholders
• Engage with cross-functional teams across the organization

Demonstrate strong stakeholder management and communication skills

Experience & Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience, with at least 8+ years in data architecture, data modelling, or analytics engineering
• Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise data platforms & delivering large-scale data solutions (Cloud and on-premises)
• Strong data modelling expertise (conceptual, logical, physical)
• Proficiency in data modelling tools such as ERwin, ER/Studio, or similar
• Understanding of regulatory obligations and working in highly regulated environments
• Business mindset to understand organizational capabilities
