Job Description

Portfolio Optimisation Lead , Director

Join us as a Portfolio Optimisation Lead

Take the lead in shaping and delivering our portfolio optimisation strategy at the most senior level. This is a significant opportunity for an experienced professional with a strong background in data-driven analysis and advanced statistical or mathematical modelling to drive the direction and success of portfolio optimisation capabilities across the franchise.

In this leadership role, you will not only guide the strategic development of hedging and securitisation processes, ensuring robust and proactive balance sheet management, but also play a pivotal role in delivering the vision for balance sheet management through effective collaboration across the wider franchise. By working closely with diverse teams and leveraging expertise from multiple business areas, you will ensure that our portfolio strategies are fully aligned and integrated, driving collective performance and strengthening our position as a market leader.

Your expertise will empower the business to make informed, high-impact decisions using insights generated from our advanced modelling suite, offering you substantial recognition and a platform to influence at the highest levels.

We are offering this role at Director level.

What you'll do

As the Portfolio Optimisation Lead, you will set the vision and deliver best-in-class portfolio optimisation capabilities, harnessing all financial, hedging, and business inputs. You will oversee the maintenance and enhancement of customer behaviour models and analytics, while ensuring the provision of actionable management information (MI) on all aspects of portfolio management, including hedging and securitisation.

  • Leading, managing, and developing a high-performing team of modellers and analysts, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
  • Championing the use of advanced models, promoting their adoption and integration across the business
  • Providing strategic insights through sophisticated analysis and communicating findings clearly and persuasively to executive stakeholders
  • Collaborating with cross-functional areas—treasury, finance, pricing, and risk—as well as engaging with other key areas of the franchise, to ensure seamless integration of the model suite with broader balance sheet and capital management activities, thereby reinforcing the importance of delivering through others and maximising collective expertise
  • Identifying and championing opportunities for continuous improvement in models, portfolio management, and hedging & securitisation strategies and processes
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to the Head of Portfolio Management and other senior leaders, using your technical expertise and strategic vision to maximise portfolio performance and enhance team capability
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices in model risk management and governance

The skills you'll need

We are seeking a visionary and influential leader with a degree (or higher) in a numerate discipline and a proven record in data-driven analysis, statistical or mathematical modelling, and leading complex portfolio optimisation initiatives.

In addition to extensive experience within banking or financial services, you will have:

  • Expert knowledge of optimisation methods, multivariate techniques, and advanced model development, monitoring, and risk management
  • Significant experience in data science, big data technologies, and cloud platforms (such as AWS), with strong proficiency in Python and other relevant coding languages
  • The ability to translate highly complex and technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk and finance systems, methodologies, and processes within both retail and wholesale banking environments
  • Thorough knowledge of the regulatory landscape, with a strong track record of embedding risk management and control processes within financial services businesses
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and drive change at the executive level, and a proven ability to deliver results through others by fostering collaboration and alignment across the franchise
