What you’ll do
As a Risk & Controls Associate, you’ll partner closely with the business to monitor, assess, and strengthen the control environment, supporting the effective management of risk within the first line of defence. You’ll analyse controls, identify trends and emerging risk issues, and contribute to robust governance processes that support informed decision-making. Working collaboratively across front office and technology teams, you’ll also support cross-functional processes and provide timely reporting and insights.
Day-to-day, you’ll take a proactive approach to managing risk and controls within the first line of defence, acting as a key link between the business, regional operations controls teams, and the second line of defence. You’ll help maintain a strong and well-governed control framework, making sure issues are identified, escalated and resolved effectively.
You’ll also be:
- Reviewing and enhancing the control framework, working closely with colleagues and line management to effectively manage risk within the business unit
- Supporting business continuity planning, making sure plans remain fit for purpose and validating recovery capacity through regular testing
- Contributing to control assurance activities, supporting risk discovery, assurance testing and internal audit to identify and close knowledge gaps
- Reviewing and validating exception reporting, securing completeness and timely resolution of identified issues
- Managing supervision and access control processes, including updates to supervision hierarchies, trading book access, market data and role-based permissions
- Producing and delivering management information on supervisory performance and governance, including regular reporting and ad hoc analysis
- Providing quality assurance on control effectiveness, identifying weaknesses and escalating issues through structured reporting and governance channels
The skills you'll need
We’re looking for someone educated to degree level or with an MBA or CA, with exposure to risk and control. You’ll bring good understanding of trade lifecycle processes such as order initiation, execution, booking, confirmation and reconciliation. You’ll also have strong product knowledge across fixed income, derivatives and FX markets. You’ll have strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to adapt your style to suit different audiences and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
You’ll also need:
- Strong attention to detail, with well-developed analytical skills and the ability to influence outcomes
- Knowledge of operational risk management principles and practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to influence and challenge stakeholders at all levels
- Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities, with experience handling large data sets and producing actionable insights
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly, engage diverse audiences and deliver practical solutions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- A collaborative mindset to contribute to a positive and high-performing team environment
