We are recruiting an India/US qualified lawyer who can be effective member of the KGS OGC team, that complements the activities of the U.S. Privacy and Confidentiality Office (USPCO) that sits within the Legal, Risk Management & Compliance (LRMC) department of KPMG LLP. The role is focused on ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and to support the USPCO with matters of Data Protection compliance.

KPMG LLP (KPMG) is the U.S. member of the international KPMG network of professional services firms and provides audit, tax and advisory services to a wide variety of clients.  LRMC is a busy department providing legal, regulatory, and risk management support on engagement commercial issues across the whole firm. USPCO sits within the Ethics & Compliance group within LRMC and is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable data protection legislation such as U.S. state privacy laws (e.g., the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)) and federal laws (e.g., the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)), along with other associated laws and regulations concerning data security and artificial intelligence (AI). USPCO reports to the Head of Compliance Programs within LRMC and is primarily supported by a team of Office of General Counsel (OGC) attorneys on the Confidentiality, Privacy, and Information Protection (CPIP) team. The new recruit will complement the activities of the members of the onshore team by:

• •Assisting with Data Subject Requests
• ocollation of documents and management in OneTrust
• odetermine relevance/applicability with assistance from OGC-CPIP
• •Managing Online Cookie Compliance
• oUsing OneTrust to manage cookies and consent on websites
• •Assisting with Privacy Impact Assessments
• ounderstanding of the new processes and applications
• oassessment of privacy impact in OneTrust
• •Managing the Data Privacy Risk register
• omonthly review of risks and follow-up with risk owners for updates
• oprompt escalation of critical risks to the USPCO team
• •Mailbox Management for USPCO
• oresponding to queries and allocation of tasks

• Qualifications: LLB or LLM

   

• •experience and knowledge of Data Protection Laws, including U.S. privacy laws (e.g., CCPA) and EU GDPR is mandatory
• •must have Data Protection compliance experience
• •analytical abilities
• •ability to succinctly articulate points in writing and orally
• •capabilities in MS Office, SharePoint, GenAI tools (e.g., M365 Copilot and Google Gemini), and OneTrust (e.g., Cookie/Consent Management Module and Privacy Automation Module)
• •willingness to acquire knowledge of USPCO team’s practices and processes
• •ability to be calm under pressure
• •ability to handle difficult or pressurized situations or people
• •commercial judgement and the ability to balance conflicting demands
• •initiative, self-confidence and authority
• •understanding of the risks faced by providers of professional services
