Job Title: Media Relations Officer
Organization: The Akshaya Patra Foundation; Location: Hyderabad, Telangana

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is one of India’s largest non-profit organizations, dedicated to eliminating classroom hunger and supporting education for underprivileged children. The Foundation provides nutritious, hygienic mid-day meals to millions of school children across the country through an innovative public-private partnership model.
Job Purpose
The Media Relations Officer will be responsible for building and strengthening the Foundation’s relationships with media outlets in Telangana. The role focuses on increasing positive visibility, managing media coverage, and supporting the organization’s mission through effective storytelling and proactive media engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media professionals across print, television, digital, and regional media in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
* Develop and pitch compelling stories, press releases, and media briefings on the Foundation’s programs, impact, events, and initiatives.
* Organize press conferences, media visits to kitchens and schools, interviews with leadership, and other media events.
* Monitor daily media coverage and prepare regular media reports and analysis for senior management.
* Handle media queries and manage crisis communication effectively to protect the organization’s reputation.
* Draft high-quality press releases, media kits, background notes, and opinion articles.
* Collaborate with the central Communications team in Bengaluru for national campaigns and ensure regional alignment.
* Identify media opportunities and emerging trends in education, nutrition, and social development sectors.
* Support social media content strategy with a media relations perspective.
* Manage media accreditation and engagement for major events and dignitary visits.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
Experience:
3–6 years of experience in Media Relations, Public Relations, or Journalism.
Experience working with NGOs, development sector organizations, or corporate communications preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Telugu (mandatory). Hindi is desirable.
Established network with local, regional, and national media outlets.
Strong writing skills with the ability to create clear, persuasive, and impact-driven content.
Good understanding of digital media and social media amplification.
Ability to handle pressure, manage crises, and meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency in MS Office and basic design tools (Canva, etc.).
