Position Overview

Overview 

At Zelis, we’re passionate about building software that solves problems. We count on our site reliability engineers (SREs) to empower our users with a rich feature set, high availability, and stellar performance level to pursue their missions. We are searching for someone who brings fresh ideas, demonstrates a unique and informed viewpoint, and enjoys collaborating with a cross-functional team to develop real-world solutions and positive user experiences at every interaction. The SRE engineer would be responsible for leading and executing SRE initiatives and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that systems are reliable, scalable, and available. 

Essential Duties and Functions 

• Collaborate with a high-performing team of Site Reliability Engineers, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement. 

• Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems as well as applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding. 

• Run the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health. 

• Partner with other groups in IT Operations, Database Engineering, and Hosting to build, improve, and solidify the Site Reliability core objectives 

• Build software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications. 

• Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts. 

• Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions. 

• Measure, monitor, and report of availability, latency, and overall system health based on SLIs/SLOs/SLAs. 

• Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large, distributed software applications. 

• Participating in blameless postmortems to identify resilience and reliability improvements. 

• Triaging, routing, and resolution of issues and incidents identified by both internal and external stakeholders. 

• Establish KPIs for reliability, performance, and incident response 

 

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills 

• 5+ years as an engineer in Infrastructure, Operations, DevOps, or Software Development experience. 

• Must have hands on experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., New Relic, LogicMonitor, Azure ARC, AWS CloudWatch). 

• Knowledgeable in incident management software such as Atlassian JSM. 

• Serve as organizational expert on the observability tools and platforms ensuring best practices, techniques, and methods. 

• Play a critical role in major incidents by leading mitigation of said incidents including communication to internal and external audiences, driving rapid resolution and blameless postmortems. 

• Applicable higher education, or equivalent work experience. 

• Cloud experience with Azure or AWS. 

• Ability to program with one or more languages, such as PowerShell, Python, Java, C#, Ruby, and JavaScript. 

• Experience with cloud services such as Azure and supporting technologies. 

• Experience with SQL and NoSQL Databases. 

• A proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks. 

• A collaborative spirit and you enjoy working with a team to build things. 

• A desire to continually improve and you value giving and receiving constant and constructive feedback. 

• Documentation of tribal knowledge to reduce knowledge silos and reliance on institutional memory to support and maintain reliable systems. 

• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
