Job Description
Position Summary
The Quality Supervisor leads the quality control team on the shop floor to ensure all plastic injection-molded and rubber-extruded automotive components meet strict industry standards and OEM specifications. This role is responsible for driving the "zero-defect" culture, enforcing IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 compliance, and utilizing Lean manufacturing to minimize scrap and resolve process deviations.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Inspection
- Oversee incoming raw material checks (e.g., polymer granules, rubber compounds, masterbatches).
- Conduct in-process (IPQC) and final audits of molded and extruded parts to ensure dimensional accuracy and material integrity.
- Manage defect tracking and execute containment activities for non-conforming parts on the shop floor.
Automotive Compliance & Process Control
- Facilitate Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). [1]
- Enforce adherence to IATF 16949 standards and customer-specific requirements (CSR). [1, 2, 3]
- Monitor process parameters (e.g., temperature, pressure, cycle time for injection molding/curing) to prevent quality issues at the source. [1, 2, 3]
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise, mentor, and schedule Quality Inspectors and QA Technicians.
- Train production staff on quality control procedures, proper tool handling, and safety protocols.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for customer complaints or internal rejections.
- Prepare and present detailed quality performance metrics (PPM, scrap rates, first-pass yield) to plant management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Polymer Engineering, Rubber Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Production Engineering.
- Experience: 4–7 years in QA/QC roles within the automotive, plastic injection molding, or rubber extrusion sector.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with testing equipment (e.g., MFI testers, rheometers, durometers, and CMM).
- Systems: Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS), IATF 16949, and Core Tools (SPC, MSA, FMEA, APQP).
