Bike Mechanic

A bike mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and maintains bicycles. They inspect components, estimate repair costs, perform routine services (like tuning gears and fixing brakes), and test-ride bikes to ensure safety. They also assemble new bikes and manage inventory.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Repair: Identify issues and repair or replace broken components such as chains, derailleurs, wheels, and braking systems.
• Routine Maintenance: Clean, degrease, and lubricate parts; true wheels, inflate tires, and adjust suspension.
• Customer Service: Consult with clients to explain necessary repairs, provide cost estimates, and suggest upgrades or accessories.
• Quality Assurance: Test-ride repaired bicycles to verify they meet safety standards and performance expectations.
• Assembly: Build new bicycles straight from the box or customize them to customer specifications.
• Inventory & Shop Maintenance: Track spare parts and tools, order necessary replacements, and maintain a clean, organized workspace.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Mechanical Aptitude: Strong problem-solving skills and working knowledge of various bike types (road, mountain, e-bikes).
• Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical issues and costs to non-cyclists.
• Physical Stamina: Capability to stand for long hours, lift heavy objects (up to \(32\) kg or \(70\) lbs), and perform repetitive tasks.
• Certifications: While not always mandatory, credentials from organizations like Barnett Bicycle Institute or United Bicycle Institute are highly regarded in the industry
