Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Operator

A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Operator is responsible for managing, operating, and maintaining industrial or municipal wastewater treatment systems. The primary goal of this role is to clean wastewater and ensure it meets environmental safety standards before discharge.

Job Summary

• Job Title: STP Operator / Wastewater Treatment Technician
• Department: Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
• Reporting To: Plant Supervisor / O&M Engineer
• Shift Type: Rotational (including night shifts)

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Daily Plant Operations

• Start, stop, and monitor plant machinery like pumps, air blowers, motors, and agitators.
• Control the flow of sewage through different treatment stages: Screening, Aeration, Clarification, and Filtration.
• Operate specialized systems like MBBR, SBR, or MBR, depending on plant design.

2. Chemical Treatment & Testing

• Mix and add precise chemical dosages for coagulation, flocculation, and chlorination.
• Conduct basic routine water tests using kits to measure pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Turbidity, and MLSS.
• Ensure treated water meets the statutory discharge standards set by pollution boards.

3. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Perform daily preventive maintenance like oiling, greasing, and cleaning filters/screens.
• Identify mechanical faults, pipe leakages, or electrical issues and report them to the engineering team.
• Clean the bar screens regularly to prevent choking and ensure a smooth raw sewage inflow.

4. Documentation & Safety

• Maintain an accurate Daily Log Sheet recording flow meter readings, chemical consumption, and test results.
• Strictly follow safety protocols, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like masks, gloves, and boots.
• Handle hazardous sludge removal and disposal safely according to company guidelines.
